Utah is acknowledged as one of the most patriotic states in our country. Utahns have much to be Rightfully so By Col. proud of. These fundamentals of pride and patriotism are everybody's responsibility. Except for one very serious incident, everything I've seen since my arrival concerning Utah and Hill AFB has supported this observation. Recently, I had the honor of attending retreat ceremonies with one of my squadrons. This ceremony is steeped in tradition and is one of the best ways we have of showing respect for our flag and loyalty to our country. During the ceremony, I noticed that people . , Flag and Country! in the immediate area seemed almost unaware that anything significant was taking place. I observed people walking almost directly through the formation, getting in cars and leaving. It seemed to me that people didn't care that their flag was being honored. Patriotism cannot be a "Fourth of July" emotion. It's daily business it's fundamental to our way of life. Even though these people were probably in a hurry and felt they didn't have time to stop for something as common as retreat, they're missing the big picture. I wonder if any one of them have asked themselves, "What's wrong What's going on?" with our country I'll say this; on that particular day, they didn't uphold their responsibilities to themselves and their fellow Utahns. I was disappointed.... AFLC OFFICE OF INFORMATION Vaccine protects against some strains By Lt. Col. (Dr.) Parvis M.
