Show June 8, 1979 EEO mmmatiiaii forwarded J. Murphy, Ogden Air (ALC) commander, Logistics announced selection of four individuals for the 1978 Air Force Equal Employment Maj. Gen. John Center Opportunity Awards. (EEO) Their nominations were forwarded to Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC) for further competition and consideration to compete at Air Force level. Nominees are Brig. Gen. .Cornelius Nugteren, Ogden ALC vice commander; Connie R. Truax, Civilian Personnel Division; Barbara Jean Speirs, Directorate of Distribution, and John R.Kenney, Directorate of Materiel Management. NOMINATED FOR the Air Force Distinguished EEO Award in the category for . General Nugteren was recognized for leadership and support of the Ogden ALC program and as chairman of the commanders, EEO Advisory Committee. He has served as chairman of the EEO Advisory Committee since his assignment to Ogden ALC in July 1977. Upon his arrival, he became fully aware of the importance of Ogden ALC to the economic g of the State of Utah involving himself in those community affairs which affect the employment climate on the base. The general ; recognized the value of providing a forum for constructive criticism of the existing system and perceived the benefits which would accrue to management from airing .fresh ideas for EEO program improvement. HE EXPANDED committee representation of community minority, women's and other interested groups and invited them to express their goals, aspirations and employment needs as part of the agenda. well-bein- General Nugteren . base required organizations to conform to a prescribed schedule in reporting to each other on progress toward EEO goal accomplishment and where deficiencies existed, directed . 7 corrective actions. His' leadership has enhanced an environment supporting EEO-relate- d goals and generated a sense of commitment among supervisors and managers. THE GENERAL gave full support to special programs, actively participating in Federal Women's Week, Hispanic Heritage Week, Martin Luther King Day, Black History Month and Native American Day. He has also been active in community participation, serving as the 1978 chairman of the Northern Utah' Combined Federal Campaign, the Ogden ALC Combined Federal Campaign, Air Force Assistance Fund drive, the Savings Bond Campaign and Youth Programs Committee of. the United Way Board. FW Iby distributed to all women employees and is given to newly hired women at Hill AFB. She arranged and helped teach classes on preparation for the PACE examination and arranged for courses to be taught oh base after duty hours on subjects such as basic and Division. Under her direction, the Federal Women's Program has become effective in promoting unique methods of enhancing goals set forth by the EEO plan of action. She has brought teach classes to women on minor automobile maintenance. Mrs. Truax chaired the planning of the annual Federal Women's Week consisting of briefings, tours, educational features and banquets. In conjunction, she also arranged for speakers such as Bella Abzug and Brig. Gen. Kenney is the deputy chief, Aircraft System Management Division, Directorate of . Materiel Management and was nominated for ' the category of Management. He has furthered career opportunities for employees within his organization to improve the personnel system and obtain the most highly skilled personnel, simultaneously expanding opportunities for individual (Please, see page 22) creativity, objectivity and equality in assessing needs of women assigned to Ogden ALC. MRS. TRUAX has promoted and publicized the need to recognize the vital role of women to accomplish assigned Air Force mission goals and requirements. She developed an effective and concrete affirmative action plan for women employees and placed emphasis on problems of minority fflDnmiB Hod won flfoflfes 4 women. The traditional stereotyping of women has been reduced by the fact mat they are playing a much greater role in the process. A network of problem-sharin- g and solving has been established with managers at other installations and 12 part-tim- e federal women's program managers, representing directorates and staff offices on this base has decision-makin- g an become effective network of communication.
