Ogden ALC Energy Office -- Have you noticed an increase in the cost of your home fuel bills, gasoline, and electricity in the last few months? Have you felt the frustration and concern that others feel because of the rising prices of energy? Have you noticed that major airlines in the United States have cancelled flights because of the current fuel situation and the subject of gasoline rationing is being discussed in the nation's capital? Bob Peaslee, MM, 5721 Jerry Bitton, MA, 2745 Ted Day, DS, 4794 Col. H. M. Drake, 508th, 2266 Capt. W. S. Bryan, 388th, 2382 Capt. J. Farmer, SG, 1246 Mike MaveraMs, AC, 4668 Lt. Col. Charles Dunn, 6514th, 3865 Archie Toole, Rail Shop, 5919 EVERYONE MUST BE ALERT to areas for conservation of energy. Look at processes that use energy and make changes that will reduce or eliminate the need for that energy. Everyone must get involved. With 20,000 people on base concerned about energy usage and actively participating in the program, the five percent reduction requested by the President can easily be accomplished and that pinch on the energy pocketbook can also be lessened. Be an energy miser! Ralph Freeman, PM, 5543 Bob Erickson, SE, 333 Calvin Swan, DPDO, 7518 Capt. Dallas Stone, 4754th, 2032 Well, join the crowd You are not alone. All levels of the government, from the President down to the energy monitor for your particular building, are feeling the pinch and predictions for the future promise an escalation of energy EN ERGY" CONSERVATION prices. What is the answer to this dilemma? One possible action that everyone can take is to be an "energy miser" and use less energy today than was used yesterday. Does that sound too simple? Well, it is the basic truth that governs the energy program at this installation and against which we and other air logistics centers are measured. - PRESIDENT CARTER has requested that government agencies immediately reduce energy consumption by. five percent to counteract the effect of the international crisis in Iran and the escalation of prices by other countries. Brig. Gen. Cornelius Nugteren, Ogden ALC vice commander and chairman of the Energy Conservation Task Group, has directed that an energy hot line be established in the Civil Engineering Division for reporting of energy waste. This line Ext. 2159 is to be used when any person observes major wasting of energy, such as compressed air leaks or broken steam lines any operation that needs specific action by the Civil Engineer to correct. Routine energy waste, i.e., excessive lighting, outside lights on during daylight hours, open cargo and hangar doors during the heating season, should be reported to respective energy conservation monitors in each organization for correction. l March 21 years of the marks the 33rd anniversary Tactical Air Command. When TAC was established, the mission was simply "to supply tactical air support to the ground forces." With the aircraft and equipment of the day, that was not an easy task, but it was accomplished then as we accomplish the mission, today, with dedication, hard work and determination to succeed. . CONSERVATION Never carry gasoline in the car tunk. If the car is hit from behind there could be a fatal explosion. Every year in the United States there are thousands of fires and millions of dollars lost due to improper storage and handling of flammable KEEP ONLY THOSE flammable liquids absolutely needed and then only in small quantities. Get rid of leftovers. Fire Inspector and combustible liquids. Will you add to this sometime this year? I know what your answer probably is, but let's look at a few things first. Do you realize that most buildings are relatively fire safe when constructed? From that. point on, , it is our responsibility and duty to save lives and protect property. ; IN EACH WORKING AREA, have you read the label on a drum or container and thought you had cleaning solvent, only to find it contained a highly flammable liquid? In a period of weeks or months the contents may be changed several times, so after a while nobody knows what's actually in , that container. Be sure all drums and containers are, labeled or stenciled with the correct identification of the actual contents. : I know the hard work and sacrifice each member of TAC makes to maintain peak proficiency.' Only through the efforts of such outstanding people will our country and others around the world remain free. OR COMBUSTIBLE LIQUIDS used for purposes other than recommended could result in serious illness, damage to equipment, and very possibly, fire. FLAMMABLE . J By Steve Carter In just 33 years TAC has grown to become the world's foremost global tactical air arm ready to deploy and perform anywhere in the world. I am proud of the men and women of this command and their contribution to making TAC the best. Commander, Tactical Air Command WAYS Flammable liquids need proper storage ' W. L. CREECH, GENERAL, USAF lzy PROGRAM Foremost air arm -- s- AFLC ENERGY OTHERi vl Morcfr 31 TAC marks 33 lit! ILPQ0LM Keep all flammable and combustible liquids away from heat sources and well ventilated. When at home, if gasoline must be used for some purposes, store it in approved containers, never in a glass jug, and keep the approved can in a well ventilated area, where spillage or accidental damage is unlikely. Never, pour gasoline near open flames, lights, running engines or other ignition sources. A confirmed violation or ejection of this policy of equal opportunities by an advertiser will result in the refusal to print advertising from that source. Vapors from gasoline, benzene, naphtha, solvents, and similar flammable liquids can be explosive. Any source of .flame or sparks could touch off escaping vapors. Check for ignition sources, like heaters, electrical equipment, torches, any place which vapors may reach. Also, vapor and oil soaked rags and wipers are hazardous. Dispose of them promptly after use. Small children become tragic victims because they don't know the danger. Why? Because parents haven't taken the time to show and explain it to them. LET'S TAKE A FEW EXAMPLES: Little Johnny sees Dad fill the lawnmower with gasoline. Later in the garage he tried it. SPILL! A water heater light ignites the vapors. RESULT: Second and third degree burns resulting in death two days later. Little sister sees how charcoal lighter is so much fun to squirt. She squirts a little on her dress, then goes too near the campf ire. POOF! Dress catches on fire. RESULT: Second degree burns over forty percent of her body. Five cents worth of lighter fluid scarred a for life. IN THE UTILITY CLOSET all those flammable cleaners and sprays have labels that read . "Keep out of reach of but remember, LITchildren," "Extremely flammable" TLE CHILDREN CAN'T READ. YOU CAN! You have read those examples in the newspaper and say, "Man, that's a shame! So young!" But you are just as guilty by reading it and still not teaching your children. Let's take some time with our children and prevent that kind of tragedy.
