Maj. Gary Eppler, squadron commander, accepted the award for his unit. the The 2952nd CLSS earned the AFOUA Air Force an accorded recognition highest unit for exceptionally meritorious service during the period Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 1977. XH Searchers reached the spot in a remote wilderness area Wednesday near Moran, Wyo., where two young boys were left while their father went for help, only to find the younger of them had died. Two UH-1- N helicopters from Detachment 4, at Hill AFB, participated in the massive air and ground search for John Pixley, 12, and his deceased half brother, Glen Anastos, 9, Teton County sheriff's deputy Tim Day said. 40th Rescue and Recovery Squadron ANASTOS TOLD DEPUTIES he carried the boy, then the three stopped and started a fire in an area near Whetstone Mountain about seven miles northeast of Moran. One Detachment 4 helicopter airlifted the injured boy to St. John's Hospital in Jackson, Wyo., after Sgt. Guy Manis, detachment Anastos said he left the two boys Monday night at the fire to seek help. Anastos didn't reach a road until Tuesday afternoon. He also was suffering from hypothermia. airlifted the body of Glen Anastos to the airport where he was taken by ambulance to a Jackson mortuary. SEARCH was started by deputies, the Nordic Ski Patrol and a number of aircraft, but the boys were not found. The two Hill AFB helicopters left the base pararescueman, administered first aid at the site. The other detachment helicopter THE OLDER BOY was suffering from severe hypothermia when the ground party reached the scene, said Sergeant Manis. The boy was reported in satisfactory and stable condition in St. John's Hospital in Jackson, suffering from exposure. THE TEMPERATURE was 21 degrees Fahrenheit when the boys were found. Both boys, from the coal mining town of Hanna, were with their father, Nick Anastos, on a hunting trip when the young boy became fatigued Sunday. Opinions expressed by publisher and writers rots AFOEA A brief summary of the achievements of each of the five civilians who received the summary drawn individuals honors from the citations accompanying their awards reflects management expertise, cognizance of the importance of judicious resources utilization and awareness of "people" programs. Four of the award recipients earned the honor while serving in the Directorate of Maintenance (MA) and the fifth represents the Directorate of Materiel Management (MM). McKenzie McKenzie earned the honor while serving as chief of MA's Navigation Instruments, Photographic and Training Devices Division from September 1976 through December 1977. He was cited for superior managerial expertise resulting in major increases in manpower efficiency and substantial monetary savings and for his leadership in implementation of the Orthodox Job Enrichment Program. Lt. Col. (Colonel Selectee) H. C. Place, chief of XR, accepted his directorate's honor the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award (AFOEA) from General Murphy. XR at Ogden ALC was among six AFLC units to receive the AFOEA, or "excellent" status. The directorate's outstanding performance for Calendar Years 1976 and 1977 was cited as having "contributed directly to maintenance of a high state of logistics readiness in support of the mission" of AFLC and the Ogden ALC. Crandal was cited for his achievements as of MA's Industrial Products and Landing Gear Division during the period, January 1977 through March 1978. Crandal Prior to the local presentation of the AFOEA to XR, General Nugteren represented Ogden ALC at the recent AFLC Jensen was cited for superior professional performance and excellent leadership ability as deputy chief of MA's Resources Management Division during the period, February 1976 through May 1978. He was responsible for actions leading to outstanding workloading of personnel, and for economical utilization of facilities and equipment. Commander's Conference at Wright-Patterso- n AFB, Ohio, where he accepted the AFOEA, in behalf of the Ogden directorate. It was presented by Gen. Bryce Poe II , commander, AFLC. At the ceremony presided over by General Murphy, Doyle D. Perkins, chief of the Ogden ALC Small Business and Contractor Relations Office, received special recognition for contributions leading to the center's receipt of the Secretary of the Air Force Small Business and Minority Enterprise Program award. Small Business through the achievements of and Contractor Relations Small Business the was cited, along with five other Office AFLC units, for meeting or surpassing goals of the Air Force program. Ogden ALC placed $128.8 million in contracts in small business and $1.4 million in minority enterprise contracts during Fiscal Year 1977 to earn the award. Ogden ALC chief received recognition for significant improvements in industrial repair processes, for management of construction of new industrial facilities and for analytical ability contributing greatly to the success of energy conservation, value engineering and method improvement programs. Vincent Vincent, deputy chief of the Aircraft Division, MA, was honored for his accomplishments during the period, February 1975 through December 1977. Increased productivity, reduced aircraft flow time and substantial savings are among the achievements that earned Vincent the award. Lloyd, a logistics management specialist in the Missile Systems Management Division, received the award for the period July 1976 to April 1978. He was credited with being instrumental in the enhancement of the support and reliability of the Minuteman weapon system, the nation's first-lin- e Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, and was cited for professional expertise, ingenuity and managerial ability. are their own and are not to be considered an official expression by the Department of the Air Force.
