Show December Air Force The Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) is in the midst a world-wid- e membership campaign which will continue through December. Locally, AFSA is represented by Chapter 614, who has membership applications and information about the association. AFSA is a professional association for all present and former enlisted men and women of all grades of the United States Air Force and its Reserve components. Individual membership is voluntary and is fully authorized by Department of Defense directives. In an "all major air command" letter, Lt. Gen. M. L. Boswell, former assistant vice chief of staff, USAF, and now commander of the Alaskan Air Command, wrote of AFSA, "This international, organization has provided continuous support of programs which benefit Air Force personnel, especially the establishment of the Enlisted Men's Widows and Dependents Home Foundation. His message further read, "Eligible Air Force personnel are encouraged to consider the benefits of joining the Air Force Sergeants Association." On Hill AFB, Chapter 614 is actively pursuing the membership drive. Applications for membership may be obtained from any of the following: enlisted personnel through legislative and personnel action that will contribute to making an Air Force career rewarding and meaningful. Chartered in the District of Columbia in May 1961, AFSA was founded on the premise that Air Force enlisted members, as well as their families and survivors, would benefit greatly by having their own representatives to speak in their interest in the Congress, the Department of Defense and other concerned agencies. The organization is "people oriented," geared to promoting greater public recognition and understanding of the roles and needs of enlisted people. Featured in this publication are factual reports focused on matters of concern to both active and retired members. In its role as a concerned spokesman for its members, the Association is recognized in the Congress and Department of Defense as a viable and responsive organization. Views of its matters are now sought representatives on personnel-relateboth frequently informally and through testimony at formal hearings in the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill. Membership in AFSA is open to all enlisted men and women, active and retired, in the Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves.
