Two of the records are held speed Foxbat. In September 1974, the SR-7by the Soviet Mlir-2- 5 sped from New York to London and London to Los Angeles to set two world speed records. An Air Force 1 SAC Bomb-Na- v Travel, Work Hours Competition Strategic Air Command (SAC) has announced plans for a bombing and navigation competition, called "Giant Voice '76." Participating will be all of SAC's U.S. - based 2 and FB-11- 1 bomber and KC-13- 5 tanker units. Also invited to participate in and Vulcan the competition are Tactical Air Command ll The Command. bomber crews from the Royal Air Force Strike competition is scheduled to take place between July and October. B-5- The Commission has defined the types of travel that count as work hours and which should be included along with other work time in computing Congress has sent the fiscal year 1977 Authorizations Bill to the President for signature. If signed, the bill will take effect in the new fiscal year starting Oct. 1. The bill does not give money for programs. This is done by the Appropriations Bill-n- ot yet out of Congress. There are many authorizations in the bill that affect Air Force people. Among them are authority for the Community College of the Air Force to grant associate degrees. Other proposals include an end to paying quarters and subsistance allowances for unused leave sold back. Congress directed the military services to begin economy moves to help cut present commissary subsidies. They agreed, however, that commissaries are an important benefit and should be continued. The bill also included support for several Air Force aircraft and research programs. overtime pay for Federal employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. It applies to many lower grade general schedule employes and to blue collar workers. The rules are retroactive to May, 1, 1974. There are now 29 operational at Langley AFB, Va., and 43 at Luke Ariz. The AFB, remaining aircraft are involved in various test and research projects. Command Responsibilities Military Airlift Command (MAC) took over Headquarters Command June 30. The command of 30,000 people assigned to more than 1,200 locations was disestablished. The mission of Headquarters Command in the Washington area will be taken over by MAC's newly created 76th Airlift Division commanded by Maj. Gen. William C. Norris. (AFNS) Retirees Don't Return Home, Study Shows Whether a discharged member of the Armed Forces returns home to work often depends on how green the economic pastures are near his last duty station, according to a Department of Commerce Census Bureau study. Census Bureau demographer researching the Nation's migration patterns found that of the almost 17 million Americans moving between states during nearly 2 million (11.2 per cent) were military personnel or leaving, entering, remaining in the Armed Forces. The migrant leaving the Armed Forces does not invariably return to his home state, says the study.
