Show November 8 d ft (oi by' Chaplain (Maj.) Donald R. Smith In a recent newspaper article a report was made of a press briefing by a consultant for the Institute of American Strategy. This spokesman, who made an analysis of the news reporting of a major television network revealed the bias of that network. Most regular observers have known of that bias for years. However, the most startling disclosure in that press briefing was the quotation of that network's anchor reporter. THE QUOTE said that most TV newsmen tended to be "liberal and possible left of center. . .1 think they're inclined to side with humanity rather than with authority and institutions." The real difficulty one has with such a statement is the implication that authority THE INSTITUTION of a nation which exploits people is opposed to humanity, but the institutions of a nation which assures freedom supports humanity. America has been going through its adolescence where it is fashionable to oppose authority. The campus riots, the demonstrations against the "establishment," the dividuals who "want to do their own thing" And the tragedy personnel: Hospital Hill: My wife Anna Belle Snow, stayed in your Hospital from Oct. 7 through Nov. 14. We both wish to express our deep appreciation for the wonderful care given her by your staff. Expecially noteworthy was the treatment by Dr. .Kearse. and all the personnel of the Hospital Central Nursing Unit. No one likes to be sick or in a hospital. However, the professional attitude and skills plus the general willingness to assist displayed by all of your personnel is the best I have seen in any military hospital during my 26 years in the Air Force. MSgt. Richard J. Snow, (ret) in- have all been indicators of this. The Health Agencies would like to take this opportunity to express a heart felt thanks for a job well done. The truth is that our schools, churches and governing bodies are based on the principles of encouraging people to live life at its fullest. One is not forced to choose between either authority or humanity in our nation. They are not in conflict here; The isolated cases of injustice does not destroy the "due process" of our laws. The abuse of power by some does not mean that all authority is inherently evil. These instances merely point out that we are not perfect but that we are growing and developing. And they remind us, too, that we select imperfect people to have authority. , are also our most important. Any student who has a basic course in American government knows that in our nation authority and humanity are the same. Ultimate authority rests with the people who can call into account any institution or any leader who may abuse delegated authority. Any student of human behavior knows that these are people, both in authority and in the ranks of those who oppose authority, who make errors. It is a day when we gather together to count our blessings as individuals, as families and as a nation. As a nation we have a great deal to be thankful for. We remain at peace and our defenses are strong. The men and women of the Armed Forces "The Air Force spends 46 per cent of Us budget on personnel.
