Formerly, there existed six MARS operating regions within the Continental United States (CONUS), with Radio Station AG5AA (Hill AFB) as Net Control Station (NCS) for Region 5. Recognizing a need for a the 32 active MARS Stations within the Western Division, AFCS selected Radio Station AG5AA (Hill AFB MARS) as primary NCS of the MARS Western Division Of based on its strategic location, highly compatible radio equipment, and its high calibre of professional radio operators. The Hill AFB MARS Station is one of the most well equipped in the system; being well capable in HF SSB, VHF, modes of and radio-teletyoperation.
