Joorf victims for 0 ! ; "3 r 2:.' j , Hill AFB employees are responding overwhelmingly to a plea from officials from Rapid City, S.D. for canned goods and other food stuffs to assist flood victims - and more help is needed. Early Thursday morning an Hercules from the 1550th Aircrew Training and Test Wing left the base with 5,000 pounds of food bound for the flood stricken area. The amazing thing about the airlift was that the food was collected literally overnight by concerned base employees. Acting on a request from the Salvation Army and Red Cross, telephone calls were made to points on base late Tuesday afternoon appealing for food donations. Wednesday morning base officials found the response much higher than expected after such short notice. Original plans called for a couple of airlifts next week. After the tremendous effort by base personnel it was decided to fly a lift right away. The food was picked up immediately Thursday afternoon when the Hercules touched down at Ellsworth AFB. S. D. Capt. George Bradt, formerly stationed at Hill AFB and now at Ellsworth AFB, reported that the area can still use food and donations of money. HC-13- 0 - SSgt.
