Elkins, former motor pool driver, who retired from Hill AFB last August. Mr. Elkins is recovering from a heart attack which necessitated a several month stay in the hospital last summer. Mr. Elkins was cited recently for his work at Hill AFB and for "his courteous and friendly attitude on his job and the professionalism and pride he exhibited." Before coming to work at Hill AFB six years ago Mr. Elkins had worked for Marquardt Aircraft Company. He had also served over 12 years in the Army. V , As a sergeant in 1953, he was a member of the crew that fired the first atomic artillery projectile at the Nevada Proving Grounds. He was the NCOIC responsible for the laying of the wiring and communications. 1 " ..iVfi k,( 1 Ar, During World War II, Mr. Elkins served in France, Belgium, and Germany with the 29th Infantry Division.
