He beat highly seeded Sgt. Chris Smith of Griffiss AFB, N.Y., who won the top spot in the slalom and giant slalom, but placed 21st in the downhill when he improperly waxed his skis. AlC Sheila Strausbaugh, an information specialist from Robins AFB, Ga., was the only woman in a field of 150 skiers. She placed near the bottom in all events. It was the ninth annual invitational meet to be hosted by Hill AFB at nearby Snow Basin. The weather ran the gauntlet from sunny skies to fog, snow and sleet. Three broken legs and one separated shoulder were the only casualties. Capt.
