Sutton is another officer who served both as deputy commander, Dec. 1, 1948 to Nov. 30, 1950, and as commander from Since the Ogden Air Depot later the Ogden Air Materiel Area was activated in 1940, there have been 19 commanding officers at the helm. Of these, eight were colonels and 11 were generals. First commanding officer of the Ogden facility was Col. Morris Berman who took over Nov. 7, 1940. He came here from the Materiel Division at Wright Field. He directed the expansion of Air Corps personnel during World War II. He became a brigadier general in September of 1943, shortly before he was transferred to head the San Antonio Air Service Dec. 11, 1949 to April 11, 1950. Brig. Gen. Norris B. Harbold was commander from April 12, 1950 until Apr. 27, 1951. He was succeeded by Col. Charles B. Root, who commanded from Apr. 28, 1951 until June 11, 1951. Brig. Geri. Adlai H. Gilkeson commanded the base from June 12, 1951 to Jan. 31, 1953. Next to command was Brig. Gen. Manning E. Tillery who served to June 30, 1956. During his tour of duty here he was promoted to major general. Col. Lester L. H. Kunish, who was deputy commander from July -- Command. The next commander was Col. Paul W. Wolf who took over June 27, 1944. He had been chief of supply at the depot here from Sept. 3, 1942, until he became commanding officer. The first general to head the Ogden facility was Brig. Gen. Ray G. Harris who served from Sept. 24, 1945 to Aug. 26, 1947. Col. Frank D. Hackett became the commanding officer Aug. 27, 1947. He had been commanding officer of the Spokane Air Materiel Area. He was transferred to Sacramento, Calif., June 10, 1948. Col. Homer W. Ferguson was June 30, commander in July, 12, 1952 to Brig. Gen. Pearl became 1957, 1956. H. Robey was in charge from Aug. 10, 1956 to July 31, 1959, and he was also promoted to major general in 1957. Col. Victor L. Anderson, who was deputy commander from July 1, 1957 to July 19, 1961, also served as commander from Aug. 1, 1959 to Aug. 2, 1959. Maj. Gen. Kenneth B. Hobson served Aug. 3, 1959 to July 26, 1961. Brig. Gen. Don Coupland suc- interim commander June 11, 1948 ceeded him in 1961 and served until to June 15. He also served as Aug. 3, 1964. He was promoted to deputy commander of OOAMA major general Jan. 30, 1962. Aug. 17, 1946 to July 26, 1948. General Coupland was deputy M. William Gen. of the Air Force commander Brig. He is now auditor general for the Air Force in Washington, D.C. On Aug. 3, 1964 he was succeeded by Maj. Gen. T. Alan Bennett. Succeeding General Bennett was Maj. Gen. Robert H. McCutcheon who was commander until July 7, 1970 when he was followed by Maj. Gen. Richard M. Hoban.
