Overshoes and boots that are removed indoors are the safe thing to wear. High heels and thin leather soles are always a hazard on slippery or wet surfaces. The Civil Engineer has made a special effort to clear and sand roads and walks during this season. You can avoid a costly accident by dressing sensibly, slowing down, and watching your step. A couple of minutes could make all the difference between working and being "laid up." AFLC Team Member, Take Pride Who is an Air Force member? Does the term, "Air Force member", apply only to those wearing blue uniforms? Or does it also include the huge civilian force that continues to be a vital part of the Air Force team? The Air Force team consists of both military and civilian manpower. The basic mission of the Air Force officer, NCO, and airman is identical to that of the civilian employee: to make the U.S. Air Force the strongest airpower in the world. We must meet that mission, for freedom's sake. Thus every Air Force employee military and is a vital member of the Air Force team. civilian And every Air Force member should be proud of his work, for the Air Force team has successfully met that mission. The Air Force Logistics Command takes special team. Almost half of all pride in this military-civilia- n Air Force civilian members are assigned to AFLC. The success of this teamwork is obvious. Each time an aircraft lifts off a runway, AFLC employees have done their job. Without this support, the aircraft could not fly. How important is AFLC? A pilot's life may ride on the turn of a wrench in a maintenance shop. The success of a major operation may hinge on the arrival of a spare part for a grounded aircraft. A good resolution for the n year would be to take extra note of our own particular drivi n? habits. the Some days are hard at best but how about day that began with those two cars that hurried through the yellow light, or with the car that cut in too close after passing, causing you to slam on your brakes and just about put that car behind you into your trunk? Perhaps your disposition would have improved if just one car instead of three had jutted ahead of you as you tried to enter the lane of traffic leading to your work area. Follow this up with a car stopped in the center of the road with Alston passengers unloading and going in all directions in no particular hurry, and a car from another finally, number parked on a slant filling the last two p'aces in your' parking lot. And AFLC team members strive for perfection. If you are an AFLC team member, take pride. Highway travel in the summer usually means just getting into your car and going. Hut winter motoring is a different matter. It requires what the National Safety Council calls a "new way" of driving. Your car needs to be in top mechanical condition. Brakes, lights, windshield wipers, tires, muffler and tailpipe must all Ik? capable of doing the job for which they were intended. Getting started requires a new method. Start slowly on ice or snow. Don't spin the wheels. Rock back and forth slowly to gain traction. Drive the new way. Increase following distance. Reduce speed until it matches road conditions. Don't make sudden steering changes. Use the new way to stop. Snow tires or chains will reduce stopping distance. Pump brakes rather than using sustained pressure on the pedal. Slow down well ahead of l P.
