Show MAN LOSES LEG IN MINE MISHAP TUESDAT A 25-year-old Kennecott miner lost a leg Tuesday afternoon when a waste car derailed and crashed into an embankment at Kennecott Copper Corp.'s Utah Copper Division Di-vision open-pit mine. The victim was Ronald G. Steel of Lark. He was taken to St. Mark's Hospital by company ambulance where his left leg was amputated just above the ankle. A company spokesman said Mr. Steel was riding the car out of the mine on J Level when the car s journal box struck a boulder and derailed the train. Mr. Steel, who was riding on the front of the car, was caught between the metal platform and the boulder alongside the tracks. He was reported in "fair" condition con-dition Wednesday. |
