In less than four minutes after the car rolled over his chest, Myron would have bled to death internally had not a phenomena occurred which has since made medical history. A large blood clot immediately formed at the end of the severed artery close to his heart, stopping the bleeding. Doctors who performed emergency surgery on Myron a few minutes later stated that he is the first one in medical history to live through severing of an artery that close to the heart, and the first one to have a blood clot that size develop so close to the heart. Myron spent most of 1964 recuperating. His left arm was completely paralyzed and the multiple skull fractures left him with double vision for a year, but in September he entered the Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute to major in business administration.
