The type 407 Accounting Machine prepares various types of reportsa IBM cards at from rate of 18,000 characters per minute and at an operating speed of 150 cards per minute or 9,000 cards per hour. In addition to the printing capacity, the machine will also add and substract and print desired pre-punch- ed normal printing operation. The type 407 more than doubles the printing capacity of other accounting machines utilized by the Division. The machine is. capable of printing 47 different characters, namely, all the letters of the alphabet, all the numerals from zero through 9, and 11 special characters. The 407 will be utilized in preparation of the MonetaryandInvenwill tory Accounting Reports print the total value and net of property maintained andvalues sun plied by the headquarters. This machine, like other ma chines in the Statistical Services Division, is controlled through wiring on a control panel. Through proper wiring this machine will print identification headings for all reports prepared in addition to the other desired information which is read from the cards.
