PIN ACTION By Phil Biddle 'Did you know that our league is eight years old this season? The league started in fall of '46 with eight teams and has grown to the largest league in Ogden with 20 squads. However, some of the records of the first few years still stand. For instance a team of hotshots, Skymasters, rolled a 1083 single game in the second year was not broken until the Jolters rolled; a 1096 last year. The high series usually runs a little which pins, but last year Superforts went "hog wild" night and knocked over 3114. The battle for high individual series began the second year when Jack Stokes shot 675. This score hasn't been equalled since and the only one to come close was Chet Mahoney in 1949, who rolled a 671. The high game each year has been around 250 until Dale Pierce knocked over a 265 last season. This has been eclipsed already this year by Kim Kawashima with a 266. The averages in the league have from an unprintable low score Iran to 186. Chet Mahoney hit this season average in 1948 and then came back in 1949 with a 184. He was pushed each of these years very closely. Jack Stokes averaged and Bill Leonard a 182. Hank 1184 took over the next couple years with a 178 and 177. In 32 he also had a 176 but was ledged out on pin count by Jack Stokes on the last night of the I season. Charlie Burton led the lleague last year with a 180. lhese are the scores to shoot at Ifor the rest of the season to have lyour name inscribed in the record book. This is, however, practically a paper figure since to carry the jet 4,000 miles before launching, would have to increase the 6 its fuel capacity to allow for the time necessary to rendezvous whila the Thunderstreak was away from the plane. The new specifications of the two planes, which allow them to take off and land as a single unit, will permit many types of missions with little change in equipment or operational technique. The opening in the belly of the mother plane is approximately 42 ft. long to allow for the 38 ft. length of the Together the two planes weigh a total of 189,- 000 lbs.
