Show HILL Page 4 First WAF Gets Soldier's Medal For Dold Rescue Wine, Women Bowling Along And By Hush Stewart Well, here we are again after a brief vacation. That this column was missed was evidenced by 'the avalanche of phone calls received by Secretary Hal Prancom. He reports that both calls were received within a span of twelve hours! The men's league annually holds two turkey shoots Thanksgiving and Christmas. If the following wives did not have turkey adorning their Thanksgiving tables they should hire a private eye to do Don Mrs. some pussyfooting. Sparks, Mrs. Roy Gardner, Mrs. Lee Thorup, Mrs. Vic Workman and Mrs. Hal Francom. The next turkey shoot is set for December 19th and it is hoped that some new names in the local bowling congress will have something to "gobble" about. (Personally, I'm getting powerful tired of cold storage deer meat). The recent "RIF" has caused the withdrawal of several bowlers in vacancies among some of the teams. Unattached bowlers wishing to join a league bursting with en thusiasm and good sportsmanship are asked to call Secretary Fran com, phone 651. It's a long road that has no turning. They have postponed one game and forfeited the other. It seems to me that this lack of enthusiasm could be remedied, but the cure has to come from within each individual team member. Captain Reed's military experience is as varied as his sports experience. After graduating from pilots training he served with the 8th Air Force as a 7 pilot and had 15 missions to his credit before being shot down on January 11, 1944 over Bruswick, Germany. He was held as a prisoner of war for 16 months at Stalagluft No. 1, Barth, Germany. He holds the distinguished flying cross, air medal with 2 oak leaf clusters and the purple heart. One figure, though deserves mention. That was Neal Moss, who contributed 13 points for Maintenance. Players Rfercer and Galloway contributed 12 and 16 points respectively. Competition you will find everywhere and in every walk of life, and if you fail this challenge, then I can only say any other undertaking will result in a failure. This lecture has not been given merely for the Medics, but for all teams that have any intention to abandan the present league. As I said before this is your league. Submit your complaints and suggestions to this writer and he will try his utmost to iron them out. So don't give up. Give yourselves a shot in thei arm and show the other teams you've got plenty of courage, anyway. MATS had a well organized ball team on the floor November 29th but just didn't do enough shooting. Result was that the MATS boys were quite harmless for the Weath-- ! er team. The 13 to 10 score doesn't tell the whole picture, tho. The Weather team is starting to pull together and is showing qualities of becoming a menacing team in the league.
