The meeting room and the serving tables were beautifully decorated in keeping with the Christmas season. A turkey supper was enjoyed after which the evening was spent playing bingo. Hoyt was hostess to the 20th Century Club Thursday evening, December 13. The occasion was a Christmas party and program with songs and music Mrs. J. Walter Paxman, vice president of the club, presided and iiany was read by Mrs. F. H. Beckstead. Mrs. Hoyt gave the history of many beautiful Christmas carols, also the story of Santa Claus, or St. Nickolas, a patron saint of Russia," born in the fourth century. The origin and history of the carols shows how closely they have been associated with Christianity throughout the centuries. Mrs. Hoyt told that the first Christinas carol came to light in the year 129 A.D. "Jesus Is Born" was America's first caroL Mrs. Hoyt and her daughter, Miss Marsha Hoyt each sang several of the lovely carols and played a recording of "Natay Singer" an interesting song of a Navajo Indian portraying the Christmas or worship spirit. Mention also was made of some o fthe pioneer hymns used as part of their Christmas worship. xFollowing the program the executive committee served light re freshments to the following club members: Mrs. F.
