This possibility is being investigated by a University of California research team. Dr. Nello Pace says that a regulating mechanism in the carotid arteries responds to high altitude by calling for increased breathing, while the respiratory center in the brain reacts by calling for less breathing. Several days may be needed before the two mechanisms adjust to altitude and begin to work in bar mony, he added. tug-of-w- JLionwj. -- SPORTSMAN'S SUPPLY Tug-of-W- At High Altitudes t&&;g$l jTn, WILL RENT YOU A NEW If you decide to buy, 3 months rental will ba applied as down payment.! This increase is due principally to motor vehicle accidents, with the number of fatalities from such mishaps probably reaching 38,500 or 2,500 more than in 1954. Thus motor vehicle mishaps accounted lor more than two fifths of all accidental deaths, a far greater toll than from any other single type of accident. Public accidents other than those involving motor vehicles took a slightly larger number of lives than in 1954, totaling nearly 16,000. Injuries arising out of and in the course of employment caused about 14,000 deaths, the same as in the previous year. Fatal injuries in the home declined to about 27,000, a small improvement over tlie record for 1054. take-it-eas- iiijcfiv iiiit' j i-- Accidental Deaths Up By 2,000 in 1955 The ck Ona Way Round Trip 15.65 Los Angeles 16.70 Phoenix 19.00 Sacramento San Francisco ....21.75 San Bernardino 1 6.10.-9.- Ona Wov 28.20 31.90 37.62 39.15 00 Kansas City El Paso Houston .
