Members of the Juab Teachers Association in a meeting of April 26 unanimously agreed not to sign the contracts offered by the Board of Education. Such a salary schedule as established by the Board of Education would place Juab as one ot the lowest paying districts in the state. Juab would be in an unfortunate position to compete with other districts for the services of outstanding teachers. The superintendent would be at a disadvantage in securin, teachers for the schools of the . district. It has been made to appear that social security benefits are in the same category as salary increase Social security has alway been consider, and still is considered, an obligation the empolyer owes to an employee for a lifetime of service rendered. Social security is a tax imposed by law. Th e Board of Education and the teach ers have no control over it. The teachers are not being given any thing that they haven't had for a number of years. Teachers have been making contributions to a retirement system. The state was to match the contributions of the teachers the same as is done in other retirement systems. The tate failed to contribute its share and was in arrears to the extent of 13 million dollars. The legislature in its special session adopted a new system for teacher retirement. This new system enables the state to get out from under a 13 million dollar deficit. Under the new system the teachers will be paying more as their contribution, and the state will be paying less than they were obligated to pay under the old system. Certainly this can't be considered an additional expense on the people. The new system has lightened Due to conditions day was postriday, the clean-u- p poned until May 7th. It is believed that the storm was quite timely because of the farmers' needs and also because many of the lots have not had much attention. To keep and maintain a nice appearing yard should be the aim of every property owner in our city. There is no reason why the yards and streets of our city cannot look as nice as those of some of the cities to the North and South of us. Again this week we are asking for every citizen to join with us and help clean up our city. On Friday (weather permitting) there will be trucks around to haul away your rubbish. Some of the clubs plan to start at 8:00 a. m. and some at 1:00 j. m. We would like to have as much of the rubbish out on Thursday night as possible. Let s have a little coop eration on this job. We are happy to see so many people along main street fixing the area between the walk and the curb. Our hats go off to you.
