Inasmuch as it was received late from Mr. Dickerson it has been impossible to run the complete story. It will be con- tinued and concluded next issue. Thanks). Compiled by Wesley R. Dickerson and Louis A. Jensen One hundred lourteen men from! central and eastern Utah returned last weeK irom an agricultural tour to California, 'lius tour was sponsord by the Commercial Bank or Utah with the cooperation oi tne Utah Extension Service and the Caiiiornia Extension Service. Each area served by tne banK was well Everyone was represented. about what Uiey saw and the omy disagreeable tning was coming bacK to tind everything stui under a blanket of snow in contrast to the season in Imperial vauey where the tirst crop of was about ready to be cut. The group traveled by chartered busses, meeting irom the various areas in Salt Lake where the bus loads were rearranged. A system was worued out where each member would chang buses at different pants of the tour for the purpose of becoming better acquainted with people irom other parts of the state. The iirst night was spent in Reno. The time spent in "taking in the town" was no interference with a 5:30 breakfast and an early start the next morning. At where the tour acually began, the group was met by representatives of the California Exten-s- i on Service. Tme first stop was a tour ofthe University of California at Daxis. Here agricultural students come to obtain the latest information on phases of California agriculture. In Stanislaus county the principal attraction was the very excellent irrigated pastures. A lot of poor quality land is producing high returns in beef and milk through the use of irrigated pastures, which consist mostly of ladino clover, fescue and perennial rye grass. Dairymen on the tour especially enjoyed the visit at the Greenough Dairy just out of Merced. Experimental work is being conducted here on the prevention of milk fever. They have found that a ration of high phospherout and feed during the dry periods aids materially in preventing this common disease in cows. The Clark Brothers Dairy just out of Fresno was outstanding as an example of a Jarge dairy herd operated efficiently. (To be concluded next week) Sac-rame- ?. .c c r. Near Kaesong, Korea, United Nations officers and Chinese and North Korean Communist officials crowd together around a huge bomb crater. The Communists have issued claims that the crater was caused by a United Nations plane which dropped Us load in a neutral zone during the armistice talks. The crater Is on the outskirts of Kaesong, but still in the armistice restricted zone. The bomb caused no damage to life or property. In reply to Red claims, the United Nations has asked for a reinvestigation of the incident, as the Reds have issued many false claims Pag a Th Agricultural Viewpoint 9 I- TIMES-NEW- ed I Men in Service SHOP AND SAVE Continued from Page One some competitive vollevball. It was the first year in wh'ch the output of the world's strongest steel industry exceeded 100 million tons. That vast production, equal to almost of the tonnage made in this country during the recent war yers, was several times the amount needed for the defense mobilization program. Most of the output was for uses normally regarded as part of the civilian economy. But still the steel industry, which has made more than 1 billion tons since 1940, has not reached its peak Annual steel capacit. is rising toward an expected 120 million tons in the United States sometime in 1953. The annual steel capacity at the start of 1952 will be about 107 million tons, according to the best available advance information. In the first half of 1952 the steel companies' expansion and improvement programs are expected to raise the total annual capacity more than 6 million tons, followed by an increase of more than 4 million tons in the last half of 1952 and more than 2 million tons in 1953, according to present schedules. -- ii nrinur in J' v. .
