G ARBEIT'S DUPLER'S STORAGE Straw Hat Day Friday May 19 Agents SUMMER Garbett's j i c Farm Advisor General Electric Station WGY Can you kindly tell me as to the price of standing lumber? It is white pine and oak. I was offered six dollars a thousand would that be about the right price? I don't know anything about the price of standing timber, or otherwise, and would appreciate any information you could give me on the matter. So few farmers know the value of timber, and so many sell for less than a fair price, that the State has hired expert foresters and the New York State College of Forestry, at Syracuse, has established a "consumers service" to advise both seller and buyer and establish contact between them. So many factors enter into the value of standing timber that I could only guess at a fair price for yours, so let me advise you to contact your County Farm Bureau Agent and ask for the services of your district forester. This service Is free. Offhand, that offer sounds low to me. I wonder if you could tell me how to build a brooder for about twenty-fiv- e or thirty chicks. I would like to know how big to A. IE make it and how many heat bulbs I would have to use. Also any other information about raising chickens. Figure five chicks per square foot, or a brooder 2V4 or 3 feet square. I would suggest taking an old table in the cellar, or a spare room, or a fairly warm place; cover with set a 3 foot by newspaper and then foot screen of Vi inch mesh wire tacked to 2 by 4 frame on that and one end of the hang your hover over one-fofence screen, and build a around the whole. The hover can be an inverted carton box with a bulb hung in the center. Change the f.ize and raise or lower the bulb to regulate temperature. Probably, a 50 or 75 watt bulb will be adequate. Dirt will fall through the screen, so change the papers each day. Q. A. 1949 v t c TAGS SALT LAKE STAMP CO. 43 WEST 3rd SOUTH BABY CHICKS We now have RAMSHAW top duality chicks in Leghorn and breeds.
