The Ford Motor Compay has long forseen the, demand for an Automatic Transmission 1 and have,-sinc- e 945, been experimenting with and testing all kinds, including torque converter and fluid coupling types. The specifications set down by the Fornd Motor Company for an Automatic Transmission require that the same superior performace, economy, and flexibility of power transmission be maintained that was achieved with the Ford car equipped with Overdrive. This meant that Ford Motor Company would accept no compromise in an Automatic Tranmission that would affect any of the high stadards of Ford's performance. Cooperative design and testing by The Corporation and the Ford Motor Company has developed such Automatic Transmission. BE SURE INSURE Lester H. Belliston See O. The selector lever is located on the steering column, the same as the present gear shift lever and has four positions to cover all driving conditions, plus a fifth position which provides a parking brake. Viewed from the driver's position the five positions are arranged from left to right as 'P' (parking) 'R' (reverse) 'N' (neutral), 'Dr. (driving range) and 'Lo' (low). All normal driving is done with the selector set in the Dr. or driving position. In this position all ratio changes are done automatically without interruption of engine power. This gives you maximum performance at all times with smooth but positive shifts without 'bump' or engine Mayor Attest: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON FORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 'run-awa- COMPLICATED? y.'
