Board, Wayman and Gardner, Engineers, assisted by LeRoy Barker, Extension Engineer of the U. S. A. C, it was decided to change the original plans and to build a project where eventually irrigation creeks, having the origin in the Deep Creek Mountains, would be brought together into one project. This necessitated a diversion out of Toms Creek which would need 19.2 cubic yards of reinforced concrete, the construction of a 7600 foot long open ditch with a bottom, lhi ft. side ond one foot or more deep elopes wh ich 24-in- vice-preside- I career That a Choose Suecess Bring 8-i- n. Juab County Agent At the annual meeting of the Juab County Water Users held in March 18, NeDhi on Thursday. 1948 they selected as the number one project ror irrigation aeveiop-mefor Juab County, to be presented to the Utah State Water and Power Board, the project proposed by, the Callao Irrigation Company. Shortly after this meeting the members of the Callao Irrigation Company, assisted by members of the Water Users association, of Juab County, presented the Callao Development project to the Utah State Water and Power Board. The State Water and Power Board approved the project for investigation and immediately sent their engineer, W. C. Wayman to survey the project. Information and material available from the Water Facilities division of the Farmers Home Administration and from other sources were accumulated to be used in planning the project. Upon investigation of the Callao project by the Water and Power ot made 1520 cubic yards of excavation for the ditch, which is now completed. A silt catching basin at the end of the open ditch is built of rubble masonary, with an excava tion of 1,111 cubic yards or earth and using 120 cubic yards of cem ent and rock with a covering This bond is 100 feet thick. long, 50 feet wide and 6 feet deep. From this regulative pond there was built slightly more than 11,000 feet of concrete ditch. This ditch is 20 inches wide on the bottom, 18 inches sides, built on a angle. The walls of the ditch are from 4 to 5 inches thick and the floor of the ditch is from 5 to 7 inches. At the end of the ditch is another regulating and settling basin 75 feet long and 30 feet wide and 4 feet deep. The excavation of this basin is 333 cu. yards of dirt and it is covered with 8 inches of rubble masonry. Crossing the ditch at two points are County highways in which galvanized pipe was placed. each IOC feet long. Work on the project began ear ly in July and pouring of concrete was started on July 23rd. The ditch was completed about the middle of August. Juab County assisted in excavating for the ditch and obtaining and placing culverts. Officers of the Callao Irrigation Company are C. N. Bagley, president; Delmont Timm, Dorcey Sabey, secretary treasurer; George W. Tripp, and Eugene Timm, director. The wat er has its origin trom Indian Farm, Toms and Basin Creeks. Measurements taken by the Farmers home Administration and the Extension Service on the of irrigation water lost in the creek channels which had formerly been used in conveying the water over the distance which the ditch was built amounted to about 60 per cent of the natural flow of the creek.
