NEED SEEN FOR NEW BALCONY QFbrk in Extra Period AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS Game Last Friday BEFORE NEXT BASKETBALL SEASON Wasps Lost to Sp. With an overflow crowd that filled every nook and corner and even the window ledges, one of those basketball gaes which echo through the sports discussions for years was played last Friday evening at the Juab high school gym. Spanish Fork, the undefeated leaders of the Nebo division remained unbeaten when the final horn of the exra period sounded, and by virtue of the win will represent the Nebo Division of Region three in the State B class tournament at Salt Lake City in March. Although Juab led at the first quarter, the half and the third quarter, the score at all times was too close for comfort. At the end of the first quarter Juab led 12 to 9, and increased this lead cnsid-erabl- y at the half time. In the third canto the Dons came back to narrow the margin to four points, and at the end of the regular playing time the score sood By The Editor There's a couple of things which are badly needed at the Juab high school gymnasium before another basketball year rolls around . . and right now is the time to start thinking seriously of them both. First of all Let's someone invest in a horn or a siren or a bell or something else of ample volume to sound out above the din of the fans which will stop the play when the play should be stopped. It might take a of dollars to buy a horn couple and a couple of dollars to install it, but it would be worth its weight in gold if it prevented an argument during a close game like the one last Friday night. Some of the husky oices at the game last the horn. And second, and probably the foremost need at the present time, is for a balcony in the gymnasium to take care of the competing schools' students, leaving the reserved seats for sale to the general On a dollars and cents public. basis the balcony will pay for itself within a comparatively short time with the increased reserve seat revenue. Slim guys like Joe Parrish and myself have to take part of the seating capacity allowed the big guys like Ray k and Jerry Bosh to equalize things on the limited seating arrangements available now. Let's put the balcony as number one project and get it in before another basketball season rolls out-yelle- d Just after the horn (?) had sounded and before the piay had stopped, the Spaniards sank a shot, and the Spanish Forkers went wild . . only to be calmed down by the extra period announcement. In the extra period, Juab hit the basket first and it looked like the Wasps were on the right track but the Spaniards got going and then Juab made another to keep the score tied almost constantly. Were not feeling badly about the loss of the game . . the teams both played a wonderful game and it seems that it was just the Sp. Fork team's turn to be ahead when the gun sounded. The Wasps will travel to Eureka Friday night where they will attempt to tighten their hold on second place with a win over the Tintic high Miners. Juab had an easy time with the Miners a few weeks ago at Nephi, but it has been many years since the local boys have won on the Eureka A ItIvWnN. yd! "jrO -- , if Sii-S gT 'til J Jvf?
