If the posts are properly ocasons, sufficient preservative will be absorbed by the out er annual rings of wood to form a to one protective shell inch thick. This shell will protect the posts against decay. The preservative is permanent and will not bleach or wash out of the post. The four important points in the treatment are: (1) Use round posts ana be sure alt the inner and out er bark has been scraped from the part of the posts to be treated. (2) Season the posts at least six weeks if they are cut from May to September, and six to eight months if cut after September. (3) Soak 24 hours in the preservative solution. (4) Be sure to treat a sufficient length of the post so that at least six inches of the treated wood is above the ground level after the post has Den set in the ground. Experiments conducted at the Utah State Agricultural college experiment station have shown the recommended treatment to provide a complete shell of decay wood to one inch deep in 90 per cent of the posts treated.
