The decoration was bestowed upon the artilleryman by Major Gen. Jens A. Doe, commander of the famed 41st Infantry division, at the conclusion of the Jap - crushing Zamboanga campaign. Williams was graduated from the Juag high school in 1937 andR. P. was employed by Garrett as a service station attendant. In September 1941 he was inducted into the Army and came overseas in March 1942 with the slashing 41st, the first infantry div ision to join Gen. MacArthur's cont V. mand. Since then he has participated ire two long, harrowing jungle campaigns in New Guinea as well as the recent operations in the Philippines.
