City Tuesday when the i Ird anniversary of the linking of cit-,e- -- the 'l'r inscontinental Telegraph ones at li.'i South Main, Salt Lake City. Mi Bryan tapped out a message ocer the Western Union Wires direct to the New York offices of !l.e company. Immediately after which was originally the sent by Brigham Young on the completion of the linking of the wires, the New York office replied over the wires "Great Stuff, received perfectly. W. H. War, superintendent of the Salt Lake office of ciiern Union slated after the program that the code sent by Mr. Bryan was absolutely perfect. "But it remained for William A. C. Bryan, now in his 96th year, and personal telegrapher for Bigliam Young on his trips to Utah's southern stakes, to steal the show. Mr. Bryan sent the same which Brigham message today Young sent to President Abraham Lincoln 83 years ago, to A. N. Western Williams, president of Union. The message which Mr. Bryan sent to New York read: "Utah has not seceded but Is firm for the Constitution and the laws ol cur once-happ- y country, is warmly interested in such successful enterprises as the one so far completed. Brigham Young." During Tuesday morning Mr. Bi yj.n wss the guest- at the Utah hotel, where he was greeted by Guy Toombs, Executive Manager, and .met numerous.. other, people who wanted to "shake his hand". A great many former Nephi people and relatives of Nephi people greeted him both in the hotel and on the street before and after the program. Mr. Bryan also met George Al bert Smith in the Church Office ouilding and Apostle Mark E. Gilbert as President of the Winns-bor- o Branch of the Mormon church are Elder and Mrs. T. W. Vickers who come from Nephi Utah as that pay their own expenses as is Ihe rule of the Church. Elder and Mrs. Vickers have devoted their lives to duties in the church. Elder Vickers spent thee yeas In Germany as a missionary from 1S97 to 1900. Upon returning he resume his duties in the rhurch being appointed Senior prcsoident of the Seventy-firs- t Quorum of Seventies which office he held for 20 years. He was also stake missionary for seven years preceeding bis call to this mission as a missionary. He received his education at Brigham Young University also the Utah State Agricultural College and was a school teacher In Utah nnd Idaho for twelve years. Elder Vickers served as County Clerk for secen years and as superintendent of schools for four years. Ms. Vickers has also been an active rilizen of her town as well as a great church worker. Sh served as County Recorder and Deputy Clerk for several years before her mariage. She 1s an ex perienced drama director and has done a geat deal of work in the Relief Society and M. I. A. Along with their other work, they ere independent farmers In Nephi. Representatives of the United States Employment Service will be in Nephi Monday to meet with hte Selective Service Board with re gard to getting farmers, whose seasonable work has been complete 1, into essential winter war work.
