It is significent that western herds held their own in every division with the best the east and middle-wehad to offer. Judges and others who have witnessed other western swine shows were unanimous in their opinion that western swine exhibits at this show were the host ever seen on the Pacific coast. Several of the champions in the breeding classes were from California herds, and the grand cham pion barrows were Poland Chinas bred by Bishop and Glaves, Porter-villCalifornia. It is a fortunate thing that there has been a great improvement in swino type in California and other western states, for present prospects indicate that only those ranchers with modern, efficient lios will be able to show a profit from swino raising operations dur Corn Belt ing the coming year. swine growers, who attended the National, substantiated the government icpoits indicating a huge crop of pigs for this fall. It is the almost universal opinion of statisticians and swine raisers that unless there is an unexpected and sharp improvement in industrial and business conditions throughout this country, pork prices will inevitably docline as hog marketings iii'-cave. So far, there has been an increase in consumption of pot k in this country, stimulated largely by lower pork prices. As one castctn visitor at the show expressed it, even though Coin belt farmers are aware that pork pi li es will drop with a steady inrrease in production, they will g not cut down their activitity until they actually start men losing mone. Some corn-beplace f rents per lb as the cost of producing hogs under present grain prices This is including allowance for labor, overhead, death loss, arnl depreciation on equipment. Of course, there are always stockmen u ho often are actually operat a loss when they believe ating are they marking n little money. In fact, these expenses are as important as feed costs. There is little question that it is more expensive to raise hogs In the west than It Is In thff Corn Belt. The only exception is where our western hogs are used to consume fruit or other that have little or no market value. It behooves every western nwine rancher to watch production coMs! by culling his herd closely; raiding only modern, efficient nwine that will pull a price, and taking advantage of such cost savers by product. , FOR GOOD LID PATTERNS A SPLENDID LOT OFI c, MT GROCERY SHOPPING tVERYTHINC RIGHT THERE THEY HAVE IS 10VEIY.
