Bird. ft rmwrn -- 1 In reading the account of the death of Alan McPherson, one of our former citizens in your paper, I had tender emotions as well as many varied and pleasant memories, he having been employed by me for a goodly number of years. Being left an orphan in his early youth, he came to Nephi to live with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. James McPherson, who were most kind to him, but being one of those young boys who had the independence, started working to obtain means for his high school and college education, never losing He courage nor determination. worked for me during the summer months through all those years and his presence was heartily welcomed on the McCune ranch at Mills by myself and wife because of his refinement, culture, high ideals, bright intellect and keen sense of sympathy and understanding. Many are the evenings that we three have spent together in educational and interesting conversation and the lonliness of ranch life has been forgotten and the hours made sweeter througn our association. A strong and lasting friendship was formed between us which we trust will endure through the eternities. Alan was clean in conduct and word, I believe his very thoughts were just as pure as those of an angel. Indeed, he was one of the few young men who was fit to associate with the Gods. "Dependibility" was his keynote. No anxiety or concern was mine when he was assigned a task, or left for weeks with responsibility with me away. His idea of life was not to make and hoard wealth, but rather to have the wealth of a good name through being honorable, honest, chaste, gaining, and being loyal to friends, doing good to his fellow men and living a life of emulation. -worthy To say he was courageous, thrifty and determined to succeed are faint words, indeed. His desire to be somebody, his will not to fail were always an inspiration to me and his whole life of untiring and noble efforts can be an inspiration to any young man in similar circumstances, to go to with a will, and determination to become of worth to his fellow men. I desire to pay this tribute thru the columns of your paper to so worthy a young man. Respectfully, George McCune. - NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR MINERAL PATENT Serial No. 062423 V,at get your L CegfifrM t9M, t f. 0 Th Po. tO WllkM frf. 7f VSSjKgg Fomlty, Inc Aloddia. Child health day Is not an end in itself, but rather is a time for checking up on what has been done, and for thoughtful planning for what needs to be done. With us in Utah it marks the beginning or the extension of year-roun- d activities along all lines of endeavor concerned with the promotion of the health and well-bein- g of the child and young people of the at our state. The need for adequate health facilities for child health work is not as generally recognized as it should be. However, recurring May Days have done much to stimulate public interest in providing such facilites for the advancement of the child and the protection of his health, so that at present many communities devote much interest and generous resources in providing the essentials for promoting child health. In this endeavor public spirited citizens, numerous organizations interested in child health and welfare, and the medical and dental professions have joined forces with public health officials. Just as the health of the children should show Improvement in succeeding years, so must facilities for promoting child health be extended each year. I cannot urge too strongly that parents, school officials and teachers, official and voluntary agencies throughout the state, join hands in furthering child health pursuits, taking stock ot past accomplishGIVES YOU A 0RY TRACK FOR) ments and future needs, and planning seriously and diligently to V QUICK, SAFE STOPS ON meet these needs, looking forward as our goal, to the fulfillment of wet, slippery roads ine niia s Bill of Rights." The rois nocfir.ro reason for my past neglect is that the jokers were on a strike and I couldn't get them to act. Every farmer in the valley has been in the office the last day or so, asking about acreage reduction for the 1938 program. The latest and at the most accurate information present time is that allaresigners over if they inust reduce to the extent of 300 weight calories per 24 hour day. "sit-dow- Farmers may expect a slight decline in the general price level during the coming season, a report issued this week from the bureau of agricultural economics states. Effects of the Federal Surplus commodities corporation's work will be felt, however, and price will probably be beneficially affected by in February this year than in 1936. It reached a higher total than for any single month in the past five years, but consumption of products was lower than a year ago, the report pointed out. A further decline in hog prices may be anticipated in light of prospective large marketings of hogs and low consumer demand. Hog prices weakened in late March and early April in spite of relatively small total of hogs slaughtered during the month. Storage stocks of pork as of April 1 were lower than those of March but stocks year ago .activities of the governmental surplus commodities corporation would help to maintain a fair price. The relationship between butterfat and feed prices Is almost as good as for the period of 1925 to 1929, it was pointed out. Total dairy product manufacturing was about 8 per cent larger its activities, the report pointed out. Analyzing the dairy situation, the 9 x 2 1 -- at $3.95 COME AND GET WHAT YOU NEED King Furniture Supply WEST ON CENTER STREET bureau indicated that though prices will be decidedly lower than a of lard on hand increased. Fruit and nut trees passed the winter without serious damage, and good soil moisture conditions as well as temperate climatic conditions have resulted in early blossoming of trees. Strawberry acreage is expected to be about 14 per cent larger than last year, but not above the average for the period of from 1927 to 1936. Prices of lower grade beef cattle are expected to remain near the present level during most of the spring, but some weakness in the price of better grades of animals may be anticipated, the bureau's pamphlet said. Numbers of cattle on feed In the corn belt on April 1 were approximately 20 per cent higher than on the same date In 1937, and marketings have apparently been appreciable delayed by large supplies of fairly cheap feeds. Favorable conditions for develop NEPHI ment of new crop lambs should result in larger slaughters of sheep in May and June than a year ago, The early it was pointed out. spring lamb crop, too, is at least 15 per cent larger this year than in 1937, and decreases in marketings of Texas animals will hardly compensate for the surplus. Prices for the new crop lambs will probably continue considerably lower than a year ago. There will be no great change in the world-wid- e iseedtngs of wheat this year, the bureau said. Market acreage increases in some wheat areas, notably Rumania, were largely offset by drops ia the seedings of France, Tunisia, Italy and some other countries. Conditions as of April 1 indicated that the nations winter wheat yield would be at least 726 million bushels, and figures of March 1 indicate that the spring wheat crop will be abount 200 million bushels.
