Dean Hoyt went to Oregon In the fall of 1931, after having been Dean of the College of Commerce at the Brigham Young University at Provo for eight or nine years, to act as Dean of the School of Commerce at Oregon State College at Corvallis. He was graduated from Purdue University with the degree of bachelor of electrical engineering. He then studied business administration at Harvard, obtaining the degree of master of business administration. Continuing graduate study In Stanford University, he took the first and as yet the only doctorate awarded by the Stanford Graduate School of business.
