Brough, one of the speakers made the state ment that during the pioneer days of Nephi there were no doctors, "Only C. H. Bryan, father of W. A. C. Bryan, and Dan Fuller." C. H. Bryan was my father; he never pretended to be an herb doctor, though, of necessity, being lar away from medicinal dispen saries, he studied and acquired a considerable knowledge ot plants sarrying medicinal virtues and ho often used them to supplant needed. but unobtainable medicines. During his young manhood, at Louisville, Kentucky, father studied both surgery and medicine, and had an extensive experience in general practice for many years in that lowhere smallpox, cholera, cality malarial epidemics and other disorders and scourges were frequent. In cases of broken, crushed or shattered limbs and bones, father was an expert and could place every splinter wheer it belonged, as some of the good people still living in Nephi would be pleased to testify. Father was the only doctor In uab County tor nearly fifteen years of its pioneer days, from 1851 to about 1866, and during that time he waited upon everyone, white, red or black, far or near, night or day, who called for his services. He attended all new mothers, brought their babies into the world, often acting as both doctor and nurse, and he never charged anyone a cent for his services. The person referred to by the speaker as "Dan Fuller" came to Nephi about fifteen years after its settlement. He was not our late friend "Dan Fuller" who recently died at the Juab County Infirmary. Vine ''Dan Fuller" mentioned by the speaker, was, in those days, publicly known, and respectfully spoken of as "Uncle Daniel Fuller." He bad great knowledge ot the use of herbs for medicinal purposes. He was a nice elderly gentleman, probably seventy, on his welcomed ar rival in our little town, about the year 1866, and he was ever eager to He give aid to whomsoever called. never made any charge for his services, though he would accept what his patient offered, if he considered the offer well and honestly earned. He was learned and skillful, and did very much good among the sick, and should be reverently remembered and spoken of, for he never stepped over any door sill, except to give aid, and without thought of recompense.
