BOY SCOUTS ARE ACTIVE AT LEVAN DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER Mrs. Emma Johnson, 85, Passes Away Saturday Funeral Services Held at Provo, Tuesday. . Mrs. Emma Johnson, 85, hand cart pioneer, died of old age Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Monroe Whiting, in Nephi. Mrs. Johnson, daughter of William and Jane Haynes James, was horn in Pirvin, Worcestershire, England, June 8, 1840. She walked across the plains from Florence, Nebraska to Salt Lake in Captain Willis' handcart company, reaching Salt Lake Nov. 9, 1856. A year later she married Lorenzo Johnson of Springville, to which union nine children were born, six of whom survive: Mrs Ozella Rowley, Oakley, Idaho; Mrs. Orlssa Rowley, Provo;. Johnson, Salt Lake; George A Mrs. William Bowles, Mrs. Monroe Whiting and Mrs. Sylvester Boswell, Nephi; also a sister, Mrs. Jabez Dangerfield of and 22 Provo, 55 grandchildren ' n. She was a devoted Latter-da- y Saint and gladly rendered service wherever needed. Funeral services were held Tuesday noon at the Provo First ward chapel, Bishop Whitehead being in charge. The opening prayer was offered by Brother Tifney. The speakers were: J. A. Jones, David John, Bishop Buttle, and the closing remarks by Bishop Whitehead. Each speaker dwelt upon the life of the deceased. Music was as follows: vocal duet, Lunt Sisters: two selections by the First ward quartet. LOUIS GARRETT BRINGS HOME PRIZE MONEY Exhibits of seven head of Chester White hogs shown by Louis Garrett at the Intermountain Livestock show held at North Salt Lake the past week got into the money classes and Mr. Garrett is returning home with a nice bunch of ribbons and around $85.00 in cash awards. There was keen competition in the Chester White class and the judge remarked that it wag a "Real White Hog Show." The following places were taken by the hogs belonging to Mr. Garrett. Class 6 Boar, under 6 months. First and Junior champion. Class 6 Sow, 2 years or over. Third. Class 10 Sow, under 6 months, First and Junior champion. Class 12 Boar and three sows, under 1 year. First. Class 13 Four animals any age, get of one sire. Second. Class 14 Four animals any age, product of same cow, First. The fat steer exhibited by Melvln Irons won second place in competition with a long line of individual ' entries, and sold at a reasonably good price in the auction ring. Melvln did a good Job in fitting and feeding his steer and the animal brought forth a lot of praise and admiration from the visitors. This exhibit is an excellent start for Melvln and with a llttlo more experience he should develop into a real feeder of livestock.
