No. 40 WELSH CHORUS HERE THURSDAY OF NEWS ITEMS ELK THIS YEAR Big Meeting of Sportsmen and Citizens Held Saturday Evening at the Commercial Club Resolution Passed. In response to the call for a public meeting to discuss the elk question a large number of the sportsmen and citizens of this city attended the meeting held Saturday evening in A. F. club rooms. Bracken president of the Nephi Fish and Game club presided. State Fish and Game Commissioner D. H. Madsen was present and gave a very logical and comprehensive address on the fish and game conditions in this section of the state. In dicussing the fish question, he stated that it would be a waste of time and money to stock streams as heavily as some might wish for the reason that there was not enough fish food in some streams and in consequence the smaller fish would be eaten by the larger trout. He then took up the elk question and stated that he was at the meeting only as a representative of the elk control board and could not decide on anything definite but would be pleased to place before the board of control the wishes of the stockmen and other interested citizens any plan that was for the benefit of this section. He said he was not in favor of the cattle or sheepmen suffering any economic loss through the overcrowding of the range by the elk. The meeting was' t hen thrown open for discussion and several motions were put before, the meeting .which were finally amended to the point where the state board of elk control were petitioned by resolution to permit the killing of 100 bull elk this fall, which would be done under the supervision of the P?
