Bailey chairman of the board of equalization, a list which contains a budget of instructions to the county assessor with reference to the new tax law which goes into effect in 1916. The whole account will be published in this and next week's issues, that our readers may become fully acquainted with the new tax regulations. Because of recent changes in the law, it will be absolutely necessary to revalue and reappraise this year, all property under your jurisdiction and to do this you must be provided with ample competent help. Your work can not be well done unless you or your deputy shall come into close personal contact with the property and with the owner or agent in charge, and what is worth doing is worth doing well, so to that end, we suggest that you take this matter up with the County Commissioners immediately and urge them to provide you with such competent assistance as are necessary to insure, with deligan-c- e and activity, the completion of the assessment work and the writ-in- g up of the rolls not later than the 3rd. day of April. You are required to furnish tax payers statements to the taxpayers, and you have the right to require a full and complete listing of all property by the owner or agent in charge, and that he make oath to the correctness of such list. Should he refuse or neglect to do bo you have the right to make out such statement your-sel-f; and in our opinion when such contingency arises you should so govern yourself that thereafter there will Se a tendency on the part of the taxpayer to follow the more desirable method of making up his own statement. Taxation is essential to government. It is the duty of the citizen enjoying the benefits of that government to make honest reports of his property for taxation, ani you are simply doing your clear and sworn duty when you firmly, but cour teously, require him to do bis. Take upon yourself the respon- s bility of making a correct initi al assessment rather than to leave to the county and state boards of eaualization the necessity of changing your rolls. Changes by these boards, especially by the state board, although sometimes imperative, are always expensive to carry out, are productive of Injusuveand inequity, and are necessarily a source of annoyance and objection to taxpayers. It ouehtto be a matter of much gratification and pride to an ass esaor to nave his roll neat and clean, unmarked by supervising Nephi High school Thursday of last week the question of dancing was the subject ud for discussion. In the hour given fur a discussion of this subject each one of the teachers was asked to speak and all expressed them-sehin plain and forceful terms as being opposed to close and improper dancing. The student body officers and class presidents in discussing the subject were all in favor of putting the high school on record as being absolutely opposed to improper dancing on the part of any of the students, whether in public or high school dances. The sentiment seemed to prevail among teachers and students that with the high school students as a nucleus, backed by the alumni of the school and by the big majority of the other young people of our community who want pro per dancing that those who in sist upon dancing improperly, could be forced to see the erroi their way and rightabout face. At the weekly faculty meeting f the high school teachers, uesday of last week, the ques tion of how the school dances were to be conducted and what t dances were to be awowea was discussed. It was decided by the teachers ' to make out a program of dances for each party; to select a committee each week composed of three teach ers and one student, who were to have general supervision of the dance; to especially invite a number of high school parents to each party who are to act as patrons of the dance; to permit the dancing of the new dances such as one step, ostend, etc but to insist that they be danced properly. The dance given at the Arling ton by the Student Body Association Friday, Nov. 12th. was in everyway a complete success. The trustees and their wives act ed as patrons and patronesses. The large crowd present enjoyed themselves. Many have told us that this was one of the most properly con ducted dances given in many months. ea county commissioners was held in the court house Friday October 12th 1915.
