Guests were entertained by a special program of the Utah State Prison presented by Mr. Jerry Cook, counselor at Utah State Prison. Two prisoners with him, Ed Wilson and Steve Clark gave vivid accounts of their experiences with drugs and prison. "Nobody cared about me," recounted Mr. Clark, and he advised j "If there is a 'bad' little kid m your neighborhood, don't tell your children to stay away from him; he needs friends worse than anybody any-body else." Both Mr. Clark and Mr. Wilson felt that marijuana should not be legalized. Mr. Wilson stated, "I have not been able to give up drug addiction during the past twenty-five years. Drugs are available at prison." Mr. Cook advised ad-vised the audience that the Utah State Prison does not furnish the drugs and does its best to keep them out. "Contact with marijuana peddlers puts you in contact with pushers of the hard stuff," observed Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson related how progressively progres-sively addiction to drugs and demand de-mand for them caused him to first become irregular in his work, then to lose his jobs and be unable to obtain another, and finally hurled him into a life of crime in order to satisfy the demands of his insatiable in-satiable master, "dope". He warned of amphetemines, reducing pills, and drugs ordinarily found in the medicine cabinet which are some of the worst types of addictives. Mr. Clark feels that his life of no one caring for him began when his parents seperated and he "grew up on the streets," in a Negro section in Calif. Later when he moved to Utah, his experiences at the Ogden training school taught him very little except how to steal. "They didn't help me, and the instructors didn't care about me," VrTi'r'ini'lilifl LUVtLT IU LIVb IN tADT IU UWN f WwfWJM-W' i AiiiUWVii'miwwJttnMM .j.MPiMVpiiuj1i,iWiiiiVwii,pW'W'V"V"y''V'-' f'ww J DDE Dl III T IIMHCD CAnnDV rrkMrtiTIAMXIC MILLARD COUNTY CHRONICLE- he said.
