Leaders Gather for Scout Training E. L. Moody, Delta, Is participating participa-ting In the volunteer training program pro-gram at Philmont Scout Ranch and Explorer Base. Moody, a member of the Tinpan-ogae Tinpan-ogae Council, BSA, is enrolled in the Mormon Leaders Workshop Conference for Stake Presidents, which is part of the national training train-ing program organized by the National Na-tional Council, Boy Scouts of America, Amer-ica, In cooperation with the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Heading the week-long training sessions is Folkman D. Brown, National Na-tional Director of "Mormon." Relations Rela-tions for the Boy Scouts of America. Amer-ica. Assisting him are Bishop Robert I Simpson, a member of the presiding pre-siding bishopric of the "Mormon" Church; G. Carlos Smith, general superintendent of the Mutual Improvement Im-provement Association; Dr. George R. Hill, second counselor to Carlos Smith and former chairman of the National "Mormon" Exploring Com mittee; and Mrs. LaVern Parmeley, president of the Primary Association Associa-tion of the LDS Church. This Philmont training session is one of 25 courses that will be offered of-fered to about 1,300 volunteer Scout leaders this summer. In addition to adult training, more than 18,000 Exploresr and older Boy Scouts will be visiting the 214-siuare mile ranch this summer to take 12-day high adventure ad-venture expeditions into the rugged Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains. Workman spent last Thursday thru Friday In Salt Lake for doctor appointments. Mr. Floyd Bishop visited a few hours Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Fay Walker. He was returning home to Pioche, Nevada after being on vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Workman and family spent the weekend visiting with the M. H. Workmans and attending at-tending a reunion. Mrs. Joyce Jones and two child ren, Tracy and Colin, arrived Thursday Thurs-day morning by train to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Stoneking and daughter Bobbi. Friday Mr. and Mrs. Walter Win- sor of Salt Lake stopped and visit ed with the Perry Winsors and showed off their new baby boy. They then went to St. George to pick up their other two children who have been visiting there. Rae Ann Workman of Baytown, Texas, spent the weekend visiting with her grandparents, the M. H. Workmans. Perry Winsor is taking the Little League ball team to Payson this week to play in the V.B.B.A. tournament. Gaylen Walker has enlisted in the Navy. He will be sworn in this month. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Albert Winsor vacationed a week in Hailey, Idaho. Shelia and Shelly Winsor are spending the week visiting in Salt Lake with Maribah Ann and Leo Stevensen. Mrs. Donna Smith returned home Monday after two weeks in Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia. She visited with her son Gary Atkinson. Donna flew home. It was really an experience for her. Ray Smith went to Salt Lake Monday to keep a doctor's appointment. appoint-ment. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Stoneking and Bobbi went to Salt Lake Saturday. Sat-urday. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Ashby went to Salt Lake Tuesday on business. Kay Abbott spent the weekend in Salt Lake. Bird Center On Thursday August 8 at 7:30 p.m. will be a lawn party and pot-luck pot-luck supper at the home of Eugene Gardner. A similar party was held at the Gardner home last year and it was most enjoyable. In case of rain the party will be held at the Center. On Monday at 1:00 p.m. the oil painting class will be held with Mrs. Myrtls Reunion as the Instructor. Instruc-tor. On Wednesday August 14 will be another field trip. The group will leave the center at 10:00 a.m. and travel to Fillmore Canyon where they will enjoy a pot-luck dinner. On the return trip stops will be made to see the museum at Fillmore Fill-more and the rose park. On Thursday August 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Center will be the last class in "Survival from Radiation" by Reece Finlinson. Rook, games and visiting will follow, On Thursday August 22 will be a Hawaiian Party on the Patio at the George E. Ekins home In Hinckley. Wednesday August 28 the group will leave from the Center at 10:00 a.m. to go to Nephi Canyon for a pot-luck lunch at noon then a trip over the loop for those who want to go on over. Thursday August 29 at 7:30 p.m. wiil be an illustrated lecture by Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hall of Fillmore on Iran,. This party will be held on the patio of the M. Ward Moody'x This summer besides the Thursday Thurs-day evening entertainment a group have been taking trips to "See Millard Mil-lard County First". They have been to Gunnison Monument, the trilo-bite trilo-bite beds in. the west hills, the old mine at Joy, Hot Springs, Paul Bunyon's Woodpile, The Great Stone Face, the Old Mud Fort, Soda Springs, Oak Creek Canyon, and the volcanic formations near Flo-well. Flo-well. Anion Johnson is th chairman of the trips. On one trip Mr. Gold-wyn Gold-wyn Cluff explained the history of the places visited. Everyone seems to enjoy these field trips and each week the group gets larger because they realize it is always double the fun to do things with a group. I Last week a group of 20 people went to Maple urove, Kicniieia,. Monroe and back through Chalk Creek Canyon where they stopped to eat a pot-luck dinner. (Nineteen different varieties of food were on the table). Stops were also made by Cove Fort. Meadow and near eating the dessert...watermelon! The Millard Council of Aging was organized just a year ago and has from two to three activities going each week at the two centers at Delta and in Fillmore. Word has been received from the Utah Council on Aging that the Millard project has been funded for the second year under Title III of the Older America' Act. 48 states now have Councils on Aging sponsored spon-sored by the states and federal government and Utah now has 13 organized centers. Mrs. Sebrina C. Ekins the county coordinator, Mr. Dallas Rogers, director di-rector of the Fillmore Center and Mr. Glen W. Seegmiller, director of the Delta Center attended a workshop work-shop in Logan at USU in June. Mrs. Ekins was one of the four in the state asked to make a report of activities during the past year.
