Show SUTHERLAND Little Lori Smith is home now after spending some time in the hospital with a serious illness. Her father reported yesterday that she was getting along fine now though she has to be isolated until the flu subsides. Little Lori was unable to enjoy her Christmas and at that time the rest of the family was placed in different homes of relatives rela-tives at Wyo.and Idaho, so they were not together. Lori has had her Christmas now along with the rest of her family... Mrs. Deona Black, mother of Lorene, accompanied the Smiths when they brought Lori home. She stayed the weekend with her children. ,Pati Schena Is also home now after surgery. She was operated on at the Utah Valley Hospital at Provo. Pati is doing fine now and expects to resume her school activities act-ivities Monday. Congratulations to Elder John Henrie for his call to fulfill an LDS mission to Uruguay. His meeting will be held at the Sutherland WardChapel Sunday night, Jan. 21, at 6:30p.m. All of the public is invited in-vited to attend. He will leave on the 29th. All of John's family will be here for this meeting. Word that Mrs. Margaret Edwards Ed-wards had passed away on Sunday was received. Mr. Howard Edwards, her son, is hospitalized at the present. pre-sent. The funeral for Mrs. Edwards will be held in the Second Ward Chapel Thursday, January 18th at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Lee Tippetts'was home over the weekend to visit with his folks Mr. and Mrs. Reid Tippetts. Mr. and Mrs. Tippetts went to Orem last week to visit with their daughter, dau-ghter, Mr. and Mrs. Duayne Bayles and little son, Kirt. Jill is teaching school at Orem. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Erickson were here over the weekend to visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Golden Erickson. Mr. and Mrs. DeLyle Beckstrand and family were here over the weekend to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Clemont Bennett and Jolynn. They are doing just fine in Meadow and are very active in both civic and church work. Also to visit with Miss Jolyn Bennett was her friend from Delta, Miss Tammy Davis, who rpent the weekend with her. Mr. Garn Turner was here to visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Turner and family. Reports of Lyman Henrie and the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Merrell (Kay Henrie) Nielson are good. Both are getting better. The Niel-sons Niel-sons are a long way from home. Can't Resist a Sailor They have resided in Thialand for some time now. Mr. and Mrs. Max Johnson went to Milford Friday night to chaperon chaper-on a group of school students. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johnson visited in Sutherland Sunday. It was good to sue them back again. High Councilman Lincoln Elia-son Elia-son and his wife gave the program in Sacrament meeting Sunday. The Rose Prom will be held on Tuesday night at the Stake House for all Explorers, Laurels, MIA Maids and Ensigns. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jensen have been on the sick list for a while but they are on the Improve at the present time. Mr. Dennis Broderick spent a month with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Bunker and family while he was on leave from the service. His friend, Mr. Wayne Lawter a convert con-vert to the church and also a service ser-vice man, .stayed with the Bunkers also. . Mrs. Brod erick is working full time at the Tooele hospital. Mr. Broderick is working at the Army Depot and at a recent banquet which they held for all the employees and employers, employ-ers, Mr. Broderick received a special spe-cial recognition for his outstanding work there. Mrs. Velda Pace made i trip to Salt Lake Friday to get some information in-formation from the State for the Day Care Center, which she is directing. dir-ecting. SECOND WARD AREA NEWS BRIEFS EDDYS BARBEN Mrs. June Black joined her sisters Saturday at a reunion, which they attend every year. This was held at Granger at the home of Mrs. Gomer Perry of Granger. Those in attendance were Mrs. Marcia Berry man of Murray, Mrs. Leo Pronk of Salt Lake, Mrs. Deloy Reed of Salt Lake, Mrs. Gomer Perry and Mrs. Thelma Black and her daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Ro'bison of Provo. They had a nice visit and exchanged gifts. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. June Black attended open house in Salt Lake at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oral Black, for the celebration cele-bration of the 87th birthday of Mr. Marion Black (former resident of Deseret) and an uncle of Pres. June Black. About 50 family members mem-bers attended to wish him well and many more birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. James Corry and Miss Janice Corry, students of CSU Cedar City, spent the weekend in Delta with their patents, Mr. and Mrs. Heyborne Corry and Delma. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. War ner McQueen into our ward and our community and invite them to join all of our activities. Mr. Mc Queen will be working for the tele phone company and they live in the Joe Henrie home. All of the friends of Mrs. Margaret Mar-garet Edwards were saddened to hear of her death Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. in the LDS Hospital, where she has been suffering from pneumonia. The members of the ward send our sympathy and love to the families. Mr. Howard Edwards is in the Veterans Hospital again with a bad heart. Rodney Fullmer is home from Trade Tech in Provo this weekend. A letter from our grandson, Russell Rus-sell Guy Sheriff in Perth, Australia on an" LDS mission. He says the weather is hot. 90 degrees when he wrote. John, my husband, says he saw it 125 when he was there. He says he is surely enjoying his mission. She told me about Torrey, Wayne Coun ty, where she wasraised and li.ved until after she married Orvil. I remember it as a beautiful little town just before you enter "Capitol Reef National Monument" and tho beautiful rock formations. The little towns of Fruita and Hanks-ville Hanks-ville are along the road to Green-river, Green-river, which had had to close its schools oi account of the flu epidemic. epi-demic. Our Cleone nd Floyd Tol-'bert's Tol-'bert's son, LaVoy and wife live in Torrey. Garland and Phyllis Johnson took their daughter, Jill, to Cedar to college last week. Miss Pati Schena, daughter of Neno and Shirley Schena, is doing fine after her recent thyroid operation opera-tion and will be able to go to with her parents and other members mem-bers of her family from Crownpoint, New Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Don Webb went to Provo for a short visit with their daughter, Ann, who is attending school at BYU. They also visited with Ciark Cook at the valley hospital, hos-pital, where Clark was hospitalized due to an injury suffered in an accident while operating a snow- plow in Provo Canyon. Mrs. Inez Moody spent three days in Salt Lake last week doing geneology work. Elder Alfred Love, of Laramie, Wyo., a returned missionary from Rora Tonga, ,who was there while Pres. and Mrs. Moody were there, spent last Wednesday ot the Moody Moo-dy home. Mr. Ralph Lassiter of Idaho Falls has been spending the last two weeks with the Ward Moody's. He will be here until the start of the next quarter at the BYU where he will be enrolled again as a student. Mr. and Mrs. Keith A. We have a new family living out here, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Simpson, on a ranch north west of Abraham. They have three children, two ride the bus. We are glad to have some one move into our territory. Clark and Reva Bliss took a' ride Sunday up Oak City way and around thru Fool Creek and Leamington Leam-ington nnd Lynndyl. They said those towns have lots more snow than we do. Surely their water supply will be better this year. Fred Tolbert came down from Logan nnd took his wife and chil dren back with him. Winona has been in Oak City with her mother for two weeks. Edgar Taylor is still very sick in 1 a hospital in Phoenix, Ariz Sutgarvillo VENICE DAVIS Mr. and Mrs. Fre.en Shurtzand Mr. and Mrs. Elden Shurtd made a trip to Salt Lake Wednesday for a doctors' appointment for Malinda, small baby of Mr. and Mrs. Elden Shurtz. They returned the same day. Mr. and Mrs. Val Sorenson and small baby son of Salt Lake visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jensen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Oliver made We a trip to Salt Lake during the week called Margaret Sunday night. She for a visit with their children, Mr. said Sandv and Scott Rasmuson and Mrs. Ron Oliver and family, are there with her for a week. OASIS RUBY SKEEM Oasis residents who have been sick are reported doing fine. Gregory Gillen came home from the Primary Hospital Saturday. He is doing well. His mother, Iris, was also glad to get back holme, (again. Mr. Deon Gillen spent this week in St. Mark's Hospital after his operation. Eric and Margaret Gillen spent some time with him. Krisline Anderson is doing fine with her broken arm. Erma Skeem, Vernessa and Ervln Skeem made a trip to Salt Lake to the eye doctor. Faye Howell is spending a few warm days in Las Vegas with her children. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carling and family of Bountiful were here with Mr. and Mrs. FonRoy Hawley. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Skeem and daughter spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Skeem. Bruce and Leighann Anderson were home from Dugway. Evan Skeem was home for the weekend. Gene and Tony Stanworth visited Sunday School in our ward. Bill Day and Steven Willoughby returning Sunday. I Tuesday our Relief Society open-I open-I ed for the New Year. A good lesson I was given by leader, Sharon Clark. Ten members were present. I Carl Greene visiter his mother, I Lois Greene for a few days. I Mr. and Mrs. LeAur Shields en-I en-I tertained Sunday with a dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Rod Shields and Nola. Sunday night the program was given by High Councilman Merlin Christ ensen. Talks were given by Ned Church, Mildred Church, Edna Christensen and Merlin Christensen. Songs were given 'by Carolyn Eliason, and Merlin's two sons,, Scott and Jerry. We enjoyed the meeting very much and we invite them to come again.
