Show DELTA THIRD WARD AREA MEWS BRIEFS LaVEE TURNER On Jan. 18th I took a short time away from my unorganized schedule sched-ule to visit with Mrs. Zola Franklin and her daughter Amy. As soon as the door was opened into their comfy, cozy home, the delicious a-roma a-roma of freshly baked bread filled the air. Mrs. Franklin is 83 years old. Amy does most of the household house-hold chores since her mother's eyesight eye-sight has become so impaired. Mrs. Franklin still does all the cooking and baking. She has cataracts on her eyes. The surgery she had on her right eye helped a lot, now the sight in her left eye is completely gone. Whenever she bakes bread or pastry she always remembers to take her friend and neighbor Nels Olsen some. He repays the favor by doing many chores around her place. Our former Bishop Merlin Mer-lin Christensen has enjoyed eating the tender, flaky banana cream pie she makes. Mrs. Franklin always al-ways happened to have some on hand when Merlin nd his companion compan-ion would visit with her as they did their ward teaching. She spent many years in the cafe business before moving to Delta and after she came here. Mrs. Franklin, do you think when I am 83 I can make pies like you? I am a flop in making any kind of pie at my age. Mrs. Forrest (Dora) Miller and Mrs. Jennie Miller, daughters of Mrs. Susie Sampson and granddaughter granddau-ghter Billie Miller spent Jan. 23rd visiting aunt Susie, as most people know her by. Jennie is staying a few days to be with her mother and to visit with her many friends she has in Delta. The jinx seem to have hit the Orlin Roberts family. Mr. Roberts had the misfortune of getting his back broken while working on the Autovon plant. Nov. 27th his wife Drew was in a car accident. She suffered a broken shoulder and their car was a complete loss. Cheer up folks, every cloud has a silver lining. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Eliason attended at-tended the state convention for County Officers Jan. 19, 20 and 21. They planned on seeing the Mary Mary Comedy at the Pioneer Mem orial Theatre before returning home. Neil Callister of the Delta Third Ward is the Co-Captain for the Delta Del-ta Wrestling Team. Neil is a junior and his team have won all their meets this season. He received a Gold Loving Cup recently in a four-way four-way meet between Delta, Spanish Fork, Juab and Millard. Neil is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lathal Callister. Cal-lister. Congratulations, Neil. I am sure a lot of you people remember Bob Stinson. He lived in the Third Ward for many years. Last .week the State Board of Education, Edu-cation, Ch. 7, showed a short film on Bob's life when he was living out to Margum Pass. The title was "The Hermit of Margum Pass". It was real interesting. Larry Bliss and Von Callister re presented the College of Southern Utah in Wrestling held in Idaho Falls. They lost the match, but it is a great honor lor these tw young men to have been chosen to represent the college. On their way back to CSU they visited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lathal Callister Cal-lister and Mr. and Mrs. George Bliss. I hear Mr. and Mrs. A r j a a n (Whitie) ekker are sporting a new '66 Ford. How about a ride, Elaine. Angus Myers will soon be home after spending weeks in the Veterans Veter-ans Hospital. He recently had sur gery and is improving satisfactorily. Mrs. Melvin June Ivie, daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ivie, had surgery at the White Pine Hos pital in Ely. The Ivies lived in Delta Del-ta for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Allen, parents of Mrs. Arda Davis, are two people who are so friendly and kind. They have been so thoughtful over Arda since she has been so ill these past weeks. They always have a smile for everyone. How I wish for my parents, many times a day. Their advice would help me so much. Mrs. I la Forster has been staying with her daughter, Rosemary in Salt Lake for a while. Mr. and Mrs. Neil (Clareen) For ster and daughter Cindy are staying stay-ing with Clareen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Willden for a few davs. Mrs. Zola Lambright is in Tooele with her daughter, Julie who is a brand new mother of a baby boy born Jan. 18 weighing 6 lbs. 11 oz. Congratulations to the Papa and Mama, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Marshall. Marsh-all. Mrs. Rose Black and daughter Jane now living in Salt Lake, send their regards to all their friends in Delta. Bea Willden visited with Evva Wilkins in Salt Lake. Evva is spend ing a while with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Jean) Fisher. If Mrs. Joyce Church Ashby continues con-tinues to improve, it won't be long before she can be back home with her family. Joyce's father, Grant Church, grandfather George Church and three of the Ashby children visited with Joyce Sunday, Jan. 23.
