To Members of the Sunshine Club by Emily Bunker "I'M - NEVER ALONE" While I sit in my chair as the night draws near When the sun has gone down, and the stars are so clear, A feeling comes o'er me so soothing and calm, My heart overflows with one rapturous psalm; For memories come tripping so vivid and bright, It seems since my childhood, 'twere just over night, A picture I see of the years that have fiown, Though no one be near me, I'm never alone. My school days I live with my teachers and chums, With loyalty and love our hearts beat as drums, We all stand together in work or in play, Our aim is to climb one step higher each day; And thus, year by year, we've worked with a will, With thoughts such as these, since older I've grown, You can all plainly see I'm never alone. I dream of the friends I have made while at work, It seems that my heart strings they've pulled with a jerk For I know that my life they have helped me to mould, They have taught me to smile when the world seemed so cold; In spite of afflections and trials severe, I feel that a comforting spirit is near; Now I'm favored when pictures so sweet I am shown, It proved to me clearly, I'm never alone. A sunset before me I see all aglow, With colors as brilliant as any rainbow; And as I approach the evening of life, I leave far behind me all darkness and strife, That a crown I may win with service to all, To the greatest of great, and the smallest of small; And I wish all to see where'er I am known, Though veils may divide us, I'm never alone. I wrote these lines in 1928. I had been a widow for eight years, with four young children to raise the oldest 12 years and the youngest one year old. idvoftfelna Uflrfa for you I 2.99 2.44 reduced Va 77c yd. reduced V REGULAR 5.00- gij. |
