Show Down Yawnder (Continued from the front page) irrigation season begins next sea son. If I lived on the east end of Main or our business was located on the east end of town, you can just bet that I'd be parked at each city council meeting DEMANDING that new lighting system be installed the full length of main street. Yep, that's exactly what I'd do. PTA "Back-to-School" night was quite interesting. I'm surely happy with the teachers our younger two girls have. Mr. Roper has an ambitious am-bitious program outlined and the part that took my fancy is the schedule of work. Parents will know in advance what their fourth grade child in his room should know at different months throughout through-out the school year. It seems Mr. Roper has a most realistic approach to the problem of homework and time wasted at school, too. He assigns as-signs home work that takes from 30 to 45 minutes to complete on the part of the child. If a child wastes time in school, the homej assignment goes up! To me, this is a good method of discipline. And Mr. Roper, if our little D a r 1 i n' wastes time and upsets the whole class I expect you to upset the whole child! I'll try to teach her how to get along with othera at home. This is my part. I can't teach her everything that she needs to know in the way of studies. Mrs. Wood and Miss Western gave good talks on the aims and goals set for their sixth grade. These were equally interesting. Both stressed sound reading programs. pro-grams. I want our children to read well. I want them to have the love of reading that I always have bad. I want them to have better vocabularies voca-bularies than I have. Yet, I want them to comprehend what they are reading. To know how to pronounce pro-nounce words is not enough. If my sixth grader doesn't learn another thing this year only how to read well and to comprehend what she is reading, I'll be happyl I hope that she will learn lots of things. But, unless she comprehends what she is reading she'll fall down on every subjectl In this case, as in the case of the fourth grader, I'll work to "relate the whole child to the whole of life". That's my responsibility. And I'm just onery enough not to want it taken from me! Well, paraellel parking came to D'elta'Monday night. Tuesday, cries of outrage were on every hand. Deltans could have attended the meeting Friday to raise objections. So if you're one of those who oppose op-pose parallel parking in Delta and want to .do something about it, please read the following carefully: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change. the things Men's Red or Yellow HUNTING CAPS 98c to 2.98 each Red or Yellow JERSEY GLOVES 35c to 65c each BUY Yranglers Levis or Lee Overalls Best for Hunting DEER, DUCKS or PHEASANTS BUY MEN'S RED FLANNEL SHIRTS Long Tail -1.98 -BUY RED h O a; o o CJ o , c O ta Jm 3 Boys' Red Parkas 1.98 Men's Red Yests 1.98 to 3.98 ea. But for us, praise for America s practicing pharmacists comes extremely easy This week, in particular, the citi zens of the United States should take a few minutes of their time to thank their community pharma cists for his unselfish devotion to the protection of their health. This is National Pharmacy week. Most of us take the pharmacist for granted. He is always there in the prescription laboratory. He takes our physician's prescription order, compounds the ingredients and dispenses medication ready for use. But we should not take the pharmacist for granted. He is to I can, and the wisdom to know the difference". And I think that's quite a mouth ful. But, I'll tell you right now, 1 started the same day that I attend ed the meeting to fight parking meters. That we all should have something to say about. Tis local business. Sincere thanks to Bill Bishop and Bill Mortensen of D. Stevens Furniture Furni-ture and Hardware Dept. for providing pro-viding a meeting place each Thursday Thurs-day night for the local participants on Civic Dialogue. Methinks you're both all right and meknows that we have imposed on both of you! THI5 . BCERTAINLY VERY ICIWDOF YOU, MR. BUY RED- Thursday, October 10, 1963 vital to our health and the general health of the community to dismiss with a causal, "Thank's Doc". Today there are almost 124,000 dedicated men and women in this country who have spent years of study, preparing themselves for a career of service to our community and the medical profession. Without With-out the pharmacist, the health team would be greatly impeded in curing disease, preventing pain, prolonging life. As the FDA once said, "if we did not have the pharmacist, phar-macist, we would have to invent him." As new drugs are added to the inventory of medical knowledge almost 400 every year the role of the pharmacist increases. He must keep abreast of all these new medications, med-ications, and, most importantly to you, he must keep your physician advised of the drugs and their uses. Your physician is responsible for prescribing the drugs you need, but your pharmacist is responsible for dispensing those drugs In the pre scribed manner.
