Show Oak City News MAE H. Holidays are over, Christmas trees mostly all gone to the boys for a big pine tree bonfire. New Year resolutions will have been made, perhaps broken already, everyone ev-eryone happy and thankful for the safe return of loved ones to their homes after spending the holidays here. - Sunday night at Sacrament services ser-vices the chapel was filled to capacity. capa-city. Elder Larry Shipley reported his mission experiences while in Mexico, also two or three months at San Antonio, Texas prior to returning re-turning home. It was a very interesting inter-esting talk, especially the Spanish language sounded strange except to the few present that spoke Spanish. Spa-nish. The choir furnished the music. mu-sic. Stake visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Eldro Jeffery and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Jeffery. The dance Tuesday night where six returned mission elders were honored drew a large number of happy dancers. Those honored were Garth Finlinson, Larry Shipley, Steven Ste-ven Lovell, Richard Talbot, Bill All- dredge and Roland Dutson. The MIA Gold and Green Ball was very beautiful. The theme was "The Lamp Lighter." Carolyn Ron er, David Lovell and Evan Sheriff sang the Old Lamp Lighter. Miss Roberta Lovell gave an original reading. The Bee Hive girls gave, a dance number. New Years was spent at home mostly after the Sacrament serv ices. Monday night the dance-was enjoyed by the many attending. The weather was very ' pleasant this year. Oak City wishes Happy New Year greetings to the Chron Icle staff and also all a Happy and prosperous year for 1962. The annual Rabbit Hunt. Mon day, New Year's morning was enjoyed en-joyed by about all the men of Oak City and the many visiting men, Maybe 300 or more rabbits were bagged. Oh, what a happy time, except for the rabbits. (Too late for last week's paper) We are just having wonderful weather, even a little snow left yet. The wind's absence we enjoy, also the extreme cold weather has moderated as we had last week. Oak City people have the Christmas Christ-mas spirit and we extend the Merry Mer-ry Christmas and the love of Christ's birthday to all again this year and wish all a Happy New Year. . , The lovely program Saturday evening by the PTA was a beautiful beauti-ful prelude to entrance of Santa Claus following the operetta given so nicely by the school children, from the youngest to the oldest. Much appreciation was expressed by all at the success of the operetta oper-etta and the efforts of all the teachers tea-chers and officers concerned, especially espe-cially Eldonna Anderson and Sarah Finlinson for the music ,part they helped with, also mothers for the nice costumes the children appeared appear-ed in. Many visitors were present. Perhaps the largest gathering for a Christmas program in the recreation recrea-tion hall. Santa brought plenty of candy and nuts for all. Special mus ical numbers and talks left more joy and peace for Christ's birthday for all the for the New Year again. Sunday evening the choir, led by Junior Anderson and Edith Finlin son at the organ, gave a very fine selection of musical numbers which was enjoyed by the many present. All appreciated the many rehears als and fine work of choir members mem-bers and leaders. Tuesday evening the MIA made a special caroling evening in trucks all through Oak City with their young people, bringing gladness and hope to all the homes. Refresh' ments were served to the MIA af terwards. During the week special caroling and visits were made by Primary and MIA groups to the older people and shut-ins. Which I'm sure was appreciated by all visited. Oh yes, I about forgot Santa came Friday morning to the school bringing treats, promises and delight to all the school children. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Finlinson and Mr. and Mrs. Paul FinHnson and son Flint returned Saturday night just in time for the Christmas pro gram, from their trip the past week into Mexico to get their son Garth, who has been released from his mission labors the past two and a half years. They reported a very enjoyable trip and safe journey. Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs." Ivan Shipley went to Salt Lake, also Mr. John Nielson, to meet the plane that brought their son Larry from his mission in Mexico. They returned re-turned home Thursday. We are all happy to have these young mis sionaries home again. Both Larry and Garth talked a , few minutes at Sunday School Sunday. Sunday evening Dec. 31, Elder Larry Shipley will give his report at Sacrament meeting. An invita tion is extended to the public to be present and hear his report. Tuesday evening a welcome, home dance will honor Larry Shipley Ship-ley and Garth Finlinson. All are invited in-vited to join Tuesday, Dec. 26. The Gold and Green Ball will be held Dec. 29, always a lovely time. Come and join us in this happy occasion. Seem;, like Oak City is overflowing overflow-ing with visitors since the holidays started. I could not commence to name all the visitors visiting. Every home is doing their best to make a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A few of our people are visiting with relatives in other towns. The new so far has been happy but death saddened us Sunday morning when Esdras Finlinson had a phone call that his little granddaughter, grand-daughter, Paulette five-months old, had died suddenly at Enterprise, of a virus of some kind. The little child is the daughter of Wesley and LaMae Finlinson Twitchell of Enterprise. En-terprise. Esdras and Reece, brother of LaMae went to Enterprise Sunday Sun-day morning returning Sunday evening. ev-ening. They went again Tuesday morning for the services. Ann Finlinson Fin-linson went with them and other members of Esdras' family. Our sympathy is extended to this family, fam-ily, especially sad at Christmas time. buy now W 0) U) Mi -III Holiday vis'tors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M: Ward Moody have been their sons and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Sheldon and in fant daughter, Lon, of Garden Grove, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Peterson and six children, of Provo, and Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Anderson Ander-son and four children, of Manassa, Colo. Monday Mr. and Mrs. Moody telephoned their daughter, Mrs. Ross (Olive) Esplin, in Hawaii for a visit. eammdon Mr. and Mrs. Robert Terry and tvo children of Lakewood, Calif.,! came -Saturday to spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Roper. It was a short visit but an enjoyable one for all the family. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Stone (Nila Jean Johnson) spent their Christmas Christ-mas with her family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson. The Lynndyl MIA entertained Leamington at a Christmas Party Tuesday night. Games, refreshments refresh-ments and an exchange of gifts for everyone helped to make a good time. The elementary school "Operetta" "Operet-ta" drew one of the largest crowds Leamington has had in a long time. It is one of the highlights of our holiday season. The teachers and children deserve thanks for the ef fort put into this production. The MIA and Sunday School had Santa for the children Christmas Eve. I should say two Santas. Mr. and Mrs. Rich Finlinson en tertained a group of twenty at their home Saturday night. The children exchanged gift and a buffet supper of turkey, salad and all the trim mings was enjoyed by everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bradfield and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Anderton were guests at the Jerald Justesen home for a family party Saturday night. Stanley and Ralph helped Delta with a visit as Santa. Home from college for the noli days are Neal Finlinson, Roger Nielson and Kay Lovell from U.S.U., and Kenneth Lovell of Snow Col lege. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Nielson, Alan and Steven, have gone to Carson City, Nev., to visit their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Lar-sen Lar-sen and family. Bill and Claudine Nielson had Christmas dinner in Nephl with friends. The two girls are from France and enjoy being together so much. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Nielson had Mr. and Mrs. Evan Skidmore and family for Christmas dinner. Mrs. Margaret Bradfield had Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bradfield for Christmas day. Mr. and Mrs. Bud McCann joined Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lovell, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Weldon and family of Salt Lake at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Lovell In Faust and had a delicious dinner and visit. Visitors at the Margaret Bradfield home Wednesday were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bradfield of Scipio and Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Bradfield and children of Twin Falls, Idaho. Mrs. Bradfield left Friday by train to spend New Years in Las Vegas, Henderson and Nipton, Calif. She plans to visit all her children and married grandchildren in that va- cinity. Mrs. Margaret Bradfield received word her grandson Larry Bradfield was getting married to Miss Flor- ence Trytan of Hawaii. The wed - ding will be in the Church of Cross- roads in the Islands. Mrs. Clara Johnson has had all her family home during the holi days. Mr, and Mrs. Frank Grygla and four children, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Clements and five children child-ren of Payson, Mr. Robert and Glen Grygla of Salt Lake and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Snyder and three children of Page, Ariz. They are all thrilled with Shirley's new boy. Clara Johnson and Mrs. Hattie Anderson accompanied Shirley and Leonard north Monday to visit relatives re-latives and especially Mr. and Mrs. Orson Crouch at Orem. Mrs. Clara Johnson took five of the Explorer group from Leamington Leaming-ton on a swlmminy party at Tooele Tuesday. They had a wonderful day and spent some time bowling. Those making the trip were Russell Finlinson, Lee Grygla, Glen Lee Roper, Ro-per, Eddie Bradfield and David Hanson. During the holidays Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nielson have been busy entertaining. Guests have included Mr, and Mrs. Joe Nielson and baby, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lake and Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Col- tharp and Hugh, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd West, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Oler and Mrs. Olive Tolde. Mrs. Kenneth N.elson, Mrs. Jerald Nielson and Mrs. Phyllis Nelson spent Saturday in Nephi, Payson and Provo. The Young Marrieds of Lynndyl and Leamington had their annual Christmas D.nner and party at the Leamington Church. This is one time the men do the cooking and the women sell the tickets. A large crowd attended and after eating the very delicious steak plus all the trimmings, games and dancing completed the evening. Some of the old marrieds were there to help make the evening a success. Tuesday night the Veteran's sponsored a dance and from the crowd that attended, Christmas must have been too much. Those who did make it had a good time and we hope another year those who did not come will reserve this; Bill Henderson. 6n holiday vaca tion from Brigham Young University, Univer-sity, and friend, Miss DeAnna Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, of Honolulu, Hawaii, visited in Delta during the past week withl Mr. Hendei son's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Henderson. Mr, and Mrs. Carl Warner visited at Chr'.stmas in Salt Lake City with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Mathews, and grandchildren, grand-children, Warner and Kim. . ROSABELLE FINLINSON Mr. and Mrs. Burton Hanson and family spent Tuesday in Scipio with Burton's family. Burton attended at-tended a rabbit hunt and was a- bout hiked out by night. Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Dutson spent Christmas Eve In Fillmore with Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Dutson, Christmas day in Orem with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Barton and family. Elwood and fa mily have been down here for the past four days with the folks. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Nielson have entertained various members of Mrs. Nielsen's family during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones and four children of Springville visited at the Walker Finlinson home New Years Day. They were enroute home from Milford where they have the holidays with Mrs. Jones family and other friends and relatives. rela-tives. New Years Eve at the Walker Finlinson home were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mclntyre, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Harder and Mr. and Mrs. Rich Finlinson. Fin-linson. Mrs. Norma Nielson entertained her Sunday School class. It was a Christmas party and all the boys and girls in the 10 to 12 year age group were invited. The young fry who have had parties par-ties during the holidays are Karla Nielson and Jackie Roper. They have taken to slumber parties and it is fun but hard on the old folks and they don't spend enough time slumbering. Mr. and Mrs. Randall Bradfield spent Christmas in Sandy with Dee and his'family. It is nice to be with small children on this occasion, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mclntyre spent two days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mclntyre and family Miss Loma LaPriel Lovell stopped in Payson and brought Miss Caro- line Holladay to Leamington to vi- sit friends. LaPriel Is teaching in the Salt Lake area Miss LaReta Pratt came from Oak City and stayed with Pearl Kieth at the Clara Johnson home. Mrs. Rich Finlinson and Mrs. Lor- na Mclntyre were thriilied to get a call from their sister Jeannie of Iluntsville telling them they would be In Leamington to spend New Years Day. They had dinner at the Rich Finlinson home. Mr. and Mrs, Harold Wangsguard were the vis itors. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson and family went to Kamas to visit E-laine's E-laine's family. Mr. and Mrs. William Wil-liam Hare brought their own car and came back with Ray and E-laine E-laine to visit a few days. The excitement is about over and everything will be back to normal soon. I really can't see much difference now that a new year is here. Maybe I missed the celebrations. I'm hoping that the New Year will bring peace and prosperity to all. I'm sure everyone enjoyed the holidays. And there have been lots of families together, all the young folks home from college. I'll be sure to miss some of them, so will just say good luck to all in the new year. Mr. and Mrs. George Sampson had their son Ken home from college. col-lege. Also Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sampson visited with "them. They were on their way to Dixie College to enroll their daughter back in school. Mr. and Mrs. Reo Barney called the family from Ranchester, Wyo., to wish them a Merry Christ mas and a Happy New Year. Mr. and Mrs. Waymond Marshall and children, Steff and Steve, visited vis-ited Mrs. Zola Lambright and Merrill Mer-rill over the holidays. We were all together for New Year's dinner. We sure enjoyed having the Marshells with us. . Mrs. Lela Petty came from Provo to visit over New Years with family fa-mily and friends. She brought her 2-year old grandson Mike along for SUTHERLAND MRS. MEL CHURCH Mr. and Mrs. Will Bunker went to Nephi on Friday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Paxman. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Duaine Kimber and family of Price for dinner din-ner at the Paxman home. Beth and Duaine returned with the Bunkers and visited over night before re turning to their home. During the holidays they also received a phone call from Betty who is now at Bak- ersvllie, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Porter and family of Maser were visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Porter during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell Walker drove to Salt Lake on New Years Day to take Linda back. She will resume her studies at the U. of U. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Killpack and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Petty. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Theobald have moved back from Garrison. Ed had to quit his job as his injured leg would not permit him to work. He is now in the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake for surgery. Sunday night meeting was very nice. It was the farewell testimony for Elder Kent Gardner and the Chapel was filled. Showing the esteem es-teem in which Kent und his family fam-ily are held in our community. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Sampson and three children visited the Heber Curtis family over the week. Mr.' and Mrs. Vance West and small son Eric visited with the Evan Ev-an Christensens over Christmas. They are now living in Brigham City where Mr. West is teaching school. The day after Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Nielson and children, of Washington County, arrived to visit vi-sit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton McCulough. While here they celebrated Hamilton's birthday. birth-day. Now Mr. and Mrs. Tony Ivins of Orem are spending a few days with them. Mr. and Mrs. El Fowles, Frank and Coleen went to Las Vegas and spent the Christmas holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Fawn Sampson and family. They returned on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Chappell of Kaysville visited Friday night with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. El Fowles. Mr. Sterling Lazenby went to Salt Lake with Mr, Frank Fowles to spend the week with him. Woodbury. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Garrett of Provo spent New Years weekend with their parents, Bishop and Mrs. Max Johnson. Mrs. Martha Lindsey of Salt Lake visited with her sister Mrs. Rhoda Jackson. She returned home on Sunday. Mrs. Rhoda Jackson has gone to San Diego to visit her daughter, Shirley and family. Mr. and Mrs. Max Thornton visited vis-ited with Mrs. Jennie Thornton and May on Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Anderson of Ogden visited with their mother, Mrs. Rhoda Jackson and family overt ov-ert the weekend. The priests and their partners held a cottage meeting at the home of Bishop Max Johnson on Sunday evening. Mr. Ross Johnson entertained a group of friends at a birthday party par-ty on New Year's night. Bishop and Mrs: Max Johnson talked with Elwyn on Christmas Day. The Grant Bishop family was all home during the holidays. Floy and family were here from Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Clyn Bishop from Vernal.
