SHIPLEY Oak City celebrated the 4th with a sunrise salute and flag raising ceremony by the scouts under the direction of scout leader Dean Anderson. A fine program was given at 11 a.m., after which hot dogs, hamburgers, ham-burgers, ice cream, and popcorn balls were sold at noon by the building fund committee. Later races ra-ces for the children, horse shoe pitching and a ball game. In the evening a free picture show was enjoyed by all. This was a very enjoyable day for everyone. Monday and Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nielsen were in Salt Lake and Provo. Mrs. Genevieve Christensen and family had her brother visiting. He lives at Washington D. C. Mrs. Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Christensen, also attended a Wright family reunion at Provo Canyon Saturday. Many relatives and friends attended at-tended the funeral services of Joseph Jo-seph T. Finlinson last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Barlow and children visited a few days in Oak City with Clark and Lulu Lovell, Earl and Silvia Harris and Louisa Lovell. Wesley is in, the Army and has been stationed in Japan the past four years. He will leave next week for his next assignment in Texas. Carol Ann Briggs was also, a visitor with them from Logan. Bruce Lovell and Scott Sheriff returned re-turned from a week in California, vacationing. They enjoyed some deep sea fishing, also took in some big league ball games. i Max and Melba Bennett and children of California spent a week visiting with their parents, Emery and Lemiria Dutson and family. Albert Scott of California is visiting vis-iting this summer at the Burnis finlinson home. Mrs. Genvieve LaFevre and children child-ren visited a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Anderson. Ander-son. Their home is at Tropic. Miss Claudia Jacobsen is "home for a few days from school at Cedar Ced-ar City.' Mr. and Mrs. Dean Anderson are happy to have a new son, born Thursday, June 29. Anita's sister, Velma Harvey is visiting a few days with the Andersons. Congratulations, Congrat-ulations, Dean and Anita. Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Olson and children and Evan Sheriff are spending the holiday weekend in Oak City. They live at Sunset, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pike of Salt Lake visited for the holidays in Oak City. Mr. and Mrs. Delynn Nielson spent Saturday and Sunday with their mother, Mrs. Twiss Nielson. The 4-II girls report a nice time in the canyon last week. There were three groups of girls camping with their leaders. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Anderson and Roger spent Saturday and Sunday Sun-day Rt McGill, Nev., with their son Meldon and wife. Mr. Thomas K. Pratt is attending summer school at the BYU. He came home with his family for the holiday weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Merton Lovell and Randy are spending the veekend in Oak City. Merton is working in Provo this summer. Mrs. Vernell Dutson has her sister, sis-ter, Edith visiting from Tooele. Mr. Melvin Roper is home from Logan with his family to celebrate the 4th. He is attending summer school at Logan. Mrs. Maurine Widison and baby of Springville visited a few days. As if they were confident no one would harm them. They had started two nests before and abandoned them and began again. You see, birds can't make up their minds either. Keith Tolbert is home after work ing in Spring Valley in the hay. Now Boyd Schena is out there bal ing hay. The Karl Murrays have driven to California, to visit daughter, Marilyn Mari-lyn and husband, Jerry Blanch and two little daughters. Little Debbie Fullmer run her arm thru the wringer Wednesday and hurt her arm quite badly, but frightened ier until she will keep away next time. Experience is a sad but good teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Stewart spent Friday in Salt Lake and Provo to shop for furnishings for their newly remodeled home. Miss Joyce Tennant of Tooele is spending a few days with us, her grandparents. She came just In time to visit with her Colorado cousins. cou-sins. Two quite badly cut feet resulted while swimming in the reservoir Sunday. Someone has thrown glass in there. Dirty trick, I think! Kenny Poulsen and Jacque Corbett both had to go to the doctor with badly cut feet. And Mrs. Dorothy Poulsen Jeffery had to go to the hospital, probably with a sun stroke. She lives ir Provo. I don't know about this hot sun and the water I went to Wells, Nev., Monday. The don't know if the boating and fun Harold Petersens and Merril and in the water is worth the pain. Wallace Woodbury just got home from a trip up Beaver Canyon where their children, Mr. and Mrs. Roe Buchanan and children 'of St. George, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Woodbury and children of Provo and Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Woodbury of Cedar City, all met for a iamily party to celebrate Wilmer's birthday. They all fished. Wallace said he caught two beautiful fish on one hook. Mrs. Woodbury went on to Phoenix where she will visit her two daughters daugh-ters who live there and meet another an-other daughter, whom she hasn't seen in three years. Vernon Parry is so much better this Monday morning. He hasn't had to have oxygen for three days. Its good to report his condition. Last week at this time, he wasn't given a 50-50 chance to live. ' Fay, Blaine and wife, Lucky Theobald and children; went to Fillmore for the horse show Friday. They took their three quarter horses hor-ses and brought back a trophy. Mr. and Mrs. Fenton DeMille and four children of Kearns spent their holiday with parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Theobald. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Love and two boys of Tustin, Calif., were here this week. Ray and Beth Brown had their sister, Jackie and husband Clifford Vorhies of Spanish Fork ,as their guests over Sunday. Literary Club met at the home of Mrs. Phyllis Bennett on Wednesday night. Delicious refreshments were served to twelve members. Betty-Jane Betty-Jane Morris showed pictures and told of their trip back to Chicago to get their mothers new car. Sherline and Hal Evans and Carl and Ethel Talbot and small son Ricky Carl all of Salt Lake came to spend their father, Cluff Talbot's birthday with him. They had a party par-ty Saturday evening and Sunday they went boating up to the reservoir reser-voir with Carl's new boat. I Baptismal services were held Saturday night for two children, Marion George Talbot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Talbot and Kathie Carpenter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carpenter. Dewey Carpenter, Car-penter, who wan baptized last mo. was ordained a deacon in the A-aronic A-aronic Priesthood. Thirteen boys with their scout leaders, Sheldon Western and Jay Wright left Monday morning for Phi'mont Scout Camp in New Mexico, Mex-ico, to be gone about three weeks. The Bishop met with the boys at 5:00 a.m. Monday morning to give them a good talk before leaving. Scouts will spend the first night at Arches Nat'l Monu, where they will meet SupL Gates, a big scout-er, scout-er, then on to Mesa Verde to see the Cliff Dwellers, where there are twelve seperate villages. They will see the Continental Divide, Wolf Creek, which is 10,000 feet high. At the top is a lake which has two outlets, one that flows to the Pacific Pa-cific and one to the Atlantic Oceans. Oc-eans. They will go thru Colorado, Monte Vista Wickering, Raton Cim-meron, Cim-meron, New Mexico. Visit Taos, N. M., where Kit Carson and his wife are buried. They will see the Pueblo Pueb-lo Indians. They will be guests at the Albuquerque Air Force Base where they will receive free eats and beds to spend the night. Then on to Gallup, N.M., on to Arizona to see the South Rim of the Grand Canyon; tour Hoover Dam, then on to Nellis Air Force Base, where they are guests of the U. S. Air Force. It looks like a great trip. The ranch is a 50,000 acre estate with all kinds of wild game and fish. Athena E. Cook was th honoree at a surprise birthday party recently recent-ly held at the home of Mrs. Wanda Beckwith. Present were Mrs. Richard Rich-ard Ashby, Mrs. Stella" Ashby, Mrs. Anita Crawford, Mrs. Ray Dutson, Mrs. Bob Riding, the hostess and honoree. Mrs. Cook received many beautiful and useful f ifts and best wishes for many happy returns.
