MARY JOHNSON My isn't it nice to have such a warm spring as we are having. The spring flowers are coming out with their beautiful colors. Mrs. Josephine Sudbury passed away in a Provo hospital Tuesday, March 22. She was the mother of Mrs. Jerry Nielson who was at her bedside that day, with a sister, Mrs. Nettie Davis of Los Angeles. Funeral services were conducted in Orem Friday with burial taking place in Nephi cemetery. The Singing Sing-ing Mothers from our ward sang, "Beyond The Sunset" and Mrs. Rhea Banks was one of the speakers. speak-ers. Mrs. Sudbury had lived quite a number of her 81 years here with Mr. Sudbury who was in the merchantile business. From here they moved to Salt Lake. Survivors with Mrs. Ruth Nielson are a son, Tony of Salt Lake City and three sisters all of California. Attending the funeral services were Bishop and Mrs. Reed Nielson, Mr. and Mrs. Clead Nielson, Mrs. Lucille Johnson, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Mrs. Nina Overson, Mrs. Lucille Nielson, Mrs. Nena Wilkins and Mrs. Lucille Overson. Mr. and Mrs. Forest Alma Terry visited friends here Thursday. Forest For-est just completed his tour of duty with the Army in Germany and before returning was married in the Bern Temple in Switzerland. His bride, a little German girl was quite favorably impressed with our country. They had been visiting in Cedar City with Forest's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Terry and were on their way to Provo and Salt (Lake looking for employment. Mrs. Lucille Johnson spent Monday Mon-day and Tuesday in Salt Lake with JoAnn and family. On her trip home on the train she enjoyed vi siting with Mrs. Mary Freer who was going to Santa Monica, Calif. for the golden wedding of the Richard Rich-ard Mallets who frequently visited here while Mrs. Freer lived here. Bro. Hogan left last Monday to attend a stockholders meeting and visited with his brother, Lawerence. (He visited in Bountiful the grave side of sister Hogan with flowers. On his way home Wednesday he spent some time in Orem with his brother-in-law, Alma Peterson who is ill. In Springville he stayed over night with a sister, Mrs. Willis Weight. Mr. and Mrs. Clead Nielson accompanied ac-companied Mrs. Kay Nielson to Hill Field Wednesday for making final preparations to leave with her three small sons to join Merrill in the Philipines. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Nielson left Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Warren Overson of Springville for Wiscon-son Wiscon-son where they will attend the wedding of Mrs. Overson's son, James Andrew. Here with the Nielson Niel-son family are Camillies parents from Fountain Green. Mr. Dee Nielson returned to Salt Lake Friday with Jack Nielson. Mrs. Nada Simpson and family drove to Provo Friday afternoon where Bill was working, they spent Saturday in Salt Lake. Don Greathouse was home over the weekend. Mrs. Margie Greathouse drove to Salt Lake Friday taking the three youngsters of Mr. and Mrs. George Maxwell where they were met by their parents and went on home to Kemmer, Wyo. Wednesday Mrs. Greathouse and sons, Russell, John and Craig will leave for Inglewood, Calif, where they will attend the wedding of Miss Linda Greathouse, which will take place April 2. Miss Cheryl will be there from San Francisco Fran-cisco and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Greathouse from Ely, Nev. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Dutson and children drove to Fillmore Sunday where they visited with Mrs. Dut- son's mother and two brothers. The I brothers have been with the Na- tional Guard in Puerto Rico and! just arrived home. Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Banks were here Sunday and Monday with Mr. . and Mrs. Herbert Abegglen and fa-' mily. MISS WARNICK Engagement Announced 7,500 Read It In Th CHRONICLE The engagement and forthcoming forthcom-ing marriage of Utah State University Univer-sity students, Miss Grace Marie Warnick and Marvin Artell Smith, was revealed to close friends and relatives at an announcement luncheon at the Bluebird in Logan, Utah. Parents of the bride to .be are Parley Waldo Warnick and the late Lillian Sorenson Warnick of Hinckley, Hinck-ley, Utah. Mr. Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ariel T. Smith, Logan, Utah. Mr. Smith is also a senior and is majoring in Chemistry. He has been active in Lambda Delta Sigma and has fulfilled a mission to the SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY A surprise "birthday party was given in honor of Mrs. Mae Fullmer, Full-mer, Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Darlene Bliss. All of her children were home to help celebrate the occasion. Family group pictures were taken after which dinner was served and a beautiful cake presented to their mother. Children here were Eldon and Bud of Cedar City, DeRay of Orem, Beverly of Salt Lake and Darlene of Delta. They also brought their immediate families. with flowers and bearing tiny Netherlands. U. of U. Oilers Scholarships Applications ane now being accepted ac-cepted for the Josephine S. Siemens Sie-mens Scholarship to the University of Utah College of Education. The award which provides a $250 stipend, is for the purpose of assisting assist-ing an outstanding woman student stu-dent from rural Utah to further her education In preparation for elementary school teaching. Mrs. Siemens, who makes the scholarship available, is a U. alumnus alum-nus who now lives in Santa Monica, California. The Siemens Scholar should be superior in personal qualifications, an excellent scholar and possess a geniune interest in children. Application forms for the scholarship scholar-ship have been distributed to rural high school principals and should be returned by them to the University Univer-sity of Utah before April 30. Mrs. Manilla Moulton left Satur day to make her home In Provo with son, Stanley. Mr. and Mrs. Dern Williams from Fillmore, spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Jane Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson and family spent the weekend in Kam-as, Kam-as, visiting relatives. 4-H GARDEN CLUB BUSY The Bouquets a 4-H gardening group under the supervision of Mrs. Helen Baker have been working for the past two weeks at the Delta Second Ward Church planting flowers flow-ers and shrubbery. The members are Judy and Anita McCall, Ruth Ann Lyman, Laura Lee Hansen, Gwen Stephenson, and Jane Turner. All the members attended the talk by Dr. Stark at the Delta High School Monday night on '"Home Gardening." Jane Turner Reporter Mr. and Mrs. Nick Pac of Salt Lake City, were Delta visitors over the weekend with their sisters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Dalton and Mr. and Mrs. Max Humphries. Rulon A. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gee and boys, Ronny and Lynn, visited Sunday Sun-day with Clara Johnson and family. The Leamington Boy Scouts held their Court of Honor Sunday night, under the supervision of Scoutmaster, Scout-master, Grant Nielson and Stanley Bradfield. The boys received a-wards a-wards and merit badges. There were talks by Glen Lee Roper and Lee Grygla and Kathryn Harder contributed a piano selection. The prayers were by Russell Finlinson and Gordon Lovell. Last weekend Mr. and Mrs. Dean Harder and children, and Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Boyce drove down thru Bryce and Zion National Parks and to Kanab. This weekend they drove to Lehman's Cave. Mr. A. M. Harder joined them for this trip. Last Monday Mr. and Mrs. Boyce were entertained at dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Mrs. LaVeda Bishop spent several days last week visiting with relatives rela-tives in Salt Lake. To the boys who were shooting from the highway Into what they thought was a empty house would be surprised to know how close they came to shooting a man in the head. A trapper was staying in the house of the Wm. Bishop on the farm and was preparing his dinner when someone shot thru the window. Broken window glass shattered all over his prepared dinner din-ner and the bullet missed the man's head only by inches. At Sacrament meeting Sunday, Mr., and Mrs Gerald Watts had their infant son named. It was given gi-ven the name of Kenneth Scott Watts. The blessing was pronounced pro-nounced by Eishop Lawrence Crop per. Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Howell and Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Watts attended. Friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Bringard and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Mitchell of Delta were also present. Mrs. George Stanworth and Mr. Ray Western representing the Stake Sunday School Board were with us Sunday. Each spoke words of encouragement and advice. It was nice to have them present at our Sunday School. Mr. Martin Ludwig took Sam Howell, Robert Anderson, Marcus Skeem and Paul Ludwig to Provo Saturday to attend a Pow-wow. They saw the show by John God-ard, God-ard, "Congo Conquest". Mr. Ludwig visited with a friend he hadn't seen for 14 years, while there. Oasis Relief Society had a good turn out to the Visiting Teachers Convention held at Delta Tuesday. Oak City News MRS. MAE K. SHIPLEY Sunday evening the program was given by the MIA. President Grant Finlinson conducted and the theme was led by Pres. Theo Stuart. Talks on the different years "Slogans" were given by Reid Lovell, Harriet Finlinson, Esdras Finlinson, Ann Roper and Gayle Nielson. These people were all past presidents of the MIA. Musical numbers were a duet by Marie Finlinson and Roberta Ro-berta Lovell, a trio by Eldenna Anderson, Margene Anderson and Joy Christensen, accompanied by Beth Nielson. This was a very enjoyable en-joyable program. A fireside chat followed the MIA program. Afterwards After-wards refreshments of ice cream and cake were served to a large group of officers and young people. A Scout Court of Honor was held Tuesday night. Stake visitors were Alfred Lake and Whitey Dekker, Marion Anderson presented awards to Moyle Anderson, Barry and Glade Anderson, Cordell Finlinson, J.B. A birthday party for Wayne Nielson Niel-son was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crafts at Hinckley. Hinck-ley. Most of Wayne's family were present. His brother, Monte Nielson who has been at Porta Rico with the National Guard the past two weeks arrived home Saturday in time for the birthday party Saturday. Satur-day. Wayne's parents were present also, they are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nielson also Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nielson. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Finlinson and Mrs. Edith Finlinson visited In Fillmore Fill-more to celebrate Georgia What-cotfs What-cotfs birthday Tuesday. Mrs. Lemiria Dutson and Mrs. Mary Jeffery celebrated their birthdays birth-days with their sister, Lucile Hales at Deseret, March 13. They enjoyed quilting and visiting together, another an-other sister, Mrs. Ethel Mathews from Nephi was also present. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pratt and family left Thursday evening for St. Louis, Mo. where Mr. Pratt will attend a principal's convention. Mrs. Helen Anderson Is teaching school in his place this week. Mrs. Emma Talbot attended funeral fun-eral services at Richfield for her aunt, Mrs. Eunice Ingram. The usual Sunday School and fast day services were held Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Olsen and children were visiting over the weekend in Oak City from Springville. Spring-ville. Mrs. Joyce Talbot and little daughter, Brenda spent Saturday night and Sunday In Oak City. Her grandmother, Mrs. Mae Shipley was happy to have her at her home. She attended Sunday School and left Sunday afternoon for her home at St. George. She also visited her mother and sister and family at the Verdell Eishop home at Hinckley Hinck-ley Saturday. We are happy to have Mrs. Mary Finlinson to be at church Sunday since her recent illness, her daughter, daugh-ter, Angie Lyman is with her.
