She was riding one of Ken Adams' stallions, and made a beautiful run. being coached a little by Van Warnick as he drove by her side. "Ken Clements told us at this point we were a '4-mile ahead of the race. "Dorine passed the flag to Cleo Christensen, who, I am told, made one of the most beautiful rides of the hill run as of it was level Speed Riding, who had an up-hill run. But Speed's fine horse took the hill hun as if it was level ground, and passed the flag to Jim Kelly. "Jim's horse is tig and srong and carried him up the hill at a fast clip. He passed the flag to Aut Johnson, who took the flag at a run and headed for Nephi, His mile soon passed and he gave the flag to Alle.i Jenkins. "Allen, they tell me, took a short cut and disappeared from sight: The cars stopped and waited, wondering won-dering where he was. Then looking up the road M of a mile they saw Allen coming onto the highway, giving the flag to Feets Turner. "Turner had a bad piece of road, all down hill and steep, which is hard on horses, but he made it in quick time, passing the flag to Bud Bassett. Now Bud felt as good as his horse on this mile, and passed the flag to Kathy Petersen. "Kathy rode her purebred mare that didn's even know Kathy was on her back. She made wonderful time, then gave the flag to Lynn Talbot, who in turn gave to Eddie Lyman. "Eddie's buckskin stretched his legs over this mile in race' horse fashion, making a beautiful run, and passed the flag to Homer Jensen, Jen-sen, who had an uphill run, but made good time and gave the flag to Cliff Adams, who ran his horse down hill into Nephi Valley, passing pass-ing the flag to Nels Petersen. "This mile run was most exciting. ex-citing. I was watching from the valley floor and all I could see was a cloud of dust that seemed to literally fall down the hill Into the valley. Nels was. burning the road, and passed the flag to Kenny Adams, Ken's horse acted up a little here, but was soon brought under control and was gone like the wind. "Harold Goodwin took the next mile, "but as he was nearing the end of the run, Harold's horse saw his truck parked about 100 yeards from the finish, so he lay back his truck parked about 100 yeards All the pulling and coaxing was to no avail until Harold said, 'please, horse', and then the horse continued contin-ued his run. "Harold passed the flag to Gold-win Gold-win Cluff Sr. on the 24th mile. Goldwin jnade two sharp turns to bring the race in from the back of the arena, and gave the flag to Peck Kelly for the last mile. Peck took the flag at top speed and headed for the arena, his big palomino pal-omino covering the ground at a fast clip. "We made this run in one hour and one minute for the 25 miles. At that, we took second place. Nephi took first in 58 minutes. All we ask is another chance next year. We are sure we can cut the time down. "All in all, it was an exciting day, and a beautiful race. "Merna Western, who is attendant attend-ant to the queen at the Days of the Old West, was an alternate in the race, with Van Warnick as the other alternate."
