Refueling Refuel-ing while underway, two out-boa out-boa id-motor-powered boats have just completed a 25,000-mile endurance run of 34 days and nights in a safety test of depend-ability depend-ability unmatched in motorboat-ing motorboat-ing history. This dramatic proof of the progress made in outboard motors was designed to show their safety for extended cruising; cruis-ing; the run was estimated to be equal to 10 years' normal motor use by a boat owner. Announcement of the run, which equalled the distance around the world and exceeded all . endurance records against elapsed time, followed certification certifica-tion last week by the United Mr. and Mrs. Golden H. Black and daughter, Golda Jane, were in Salt Lake City Monday, where Mr. Black attended the meeting in the State Capitol of the Utah Library Commission, of which he is a member. A piano solo was given by Wilma Lovell, talk by Wm. Bradfield and Quotation of Scripture was given by Bishop Richard Neilson. Prayers were offered by Glen Harder and Welby Finlinson. States Auto Club, whose officials observed and timed the run and inspected the motors afterwards. On a Florida lake, two five-place five-place family runabouts, each powered by a 60-horsepower six-cylinder six-cylinder Mercury Mark 75, made the continuous run of 25,003 miles, refueling- while underway, stopping only for normal service, and finishing in the same lap just 3 minutes 20 seconds apart. Elapsed time on the lead boat was 34 days, 11.7 hours, (Sept. 11-Oct. 11-Oct. 15), with an average speed of 30.2 miles per hour. A new name on the Christmas cards which came from Mr. and Mrs. Kent Nielson in Ames, Iowa, tells of a little son born to them in the first part of December. He has been given the name of Scott and has three older sisters. Louis Bowers was home for the holidays from Dixie College, he also had his girl friend here for the coming com-ing in of the New Year. Sunday Sun-day evening, word came here of the death oi Mrs. Lottie Anderson of Fillrrwe, whom they had visited on Saturday. Mrs. Anderson has been In (iritp poor health the past three months. We were all saddened sadden-ed by this news and our deepest sympathy pnes out to all the members mem-bers of her family. Mrs. Anderson was known over this part of the county, having been born and reared in Leamington until her marriage to Alma Anderson of Fillmore. Ray Wllkins and Niel Lake and a friend have gone to Los Angeles where they will work. Ray has been home for the past several months with an injured hand and will resume work when released by his physican. Miss Linda Mills entertained a proup of frieends at her home on Monday evening. Miss Sybal Sheriff was down from Provo and there were about forty young folks at the Mills home for the evening. Sunday morning a telephone call to the Mills home brought news of the birth of a little baby girl to their daughter, Mollie, who lives in Houston, Texas. Mollie and husband hus-band have two other children. Mrs. Ruth Nielson drove to Provo and took Miss Susan back to the Y. She visited with the Carl Larsens Lar-sens in Orem also. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bradfield were called to Cedar City Friday evening. The Misses Jane and Kay Nelson played a piano duet and Rex Abegglen a niano solo. Mr. Wright talked and Bishop Reed Nielson and Curt Johnson John-son read from the Scripture. Mr. and Mrs. Curt Johnson have Curt's mother, Mrs. Anna McMahn, here with them from Orem for a stay. Ivle J., Gary, Leon, Joe and Blaine Nielson drove back to Salt Lake Wednesday aiter the two week's vacation home with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Nielson and Bishop and Mrs. Reed Nielson. Miss Shirley Sheriff is back ag..n after spending the holidays in Provo with her mother and family.
