Larry also broke the record for points In the basketball goal throw event by sinking 30 buckets in two minutes. He scored 1315 points to wipe out the 11G3 record set in 1951 by Hobby Lewis, from Ix-gan Ix-gan Junior High school. Larry won the Pentathlon meet j here in Delta, and then went to j Le.iver, where lie also captured first place to quality him for the 'state finals. V" Larry broke was set last year by Arlyn Hafen, winner of this year's Sr. Division and last year's Sr. division. Hafen broke the record that had been standing since 1038. Besides breaking two records, Larry took first in the broad jump by gaining 1)36 points on a 15 ft, 8 In. leap. In the high jump, he cleared 4ft. 10 Inches, and ran the 50 yard dash in :G,9 sec. and threw the ball put 37ft. 9 inches. Larry said that he has done some of these events better in the different meets and in practice. So next year lets hope he can go all the way to the top again. Larry placed '1th in last year's Pentathlon, and his older brother Kent, placod 9th in the Sr. division in the state finals. Larry is pictured above with his trophy that he won. Delta FFA Lists Adsvifiss Of Year !n ChsoSer G'lr Chapter had a very successful success-ful ye:ir. We have 84 members with 153 productive projects and 539 improvement projects. Our past year's program (52 and 53) consists of: 59 fat' beef, 12 breeding breed-ing beef, 42 ewes, 112 -6wine, 9 dairy animals. 644 laying hens, 700 broilers, 2080 turkeys, 196 acres of crops. We purchased 6 new foundation gilts for our swine chain. We also purchased 28 head of purebred Hampshire ewes for our Hampshire Hamp-shire chain and 1600 in the broiler program. We are planning livestock exhibits ex-hibits in six livestock shows this spring and fall and we have ten exhibiting at the Utah State Junior Jun-ior livestock show 35 exhibiting at the Millard County Junior Livestock Live-stock show held here in Delta, and 2 exhibiting at the Intermountain Junior Livestock show. We will al-son al-son exhibit at some later shows. We held a rodent and pest drive with 53 of the chapter menVbers participating. We are sponsoring "Arbor Day" for the Delta schools, with cleanup clean-up and beautification. We held a chapter parliamentry procedure and public speaking contest. In this event we were the host chapter for the area contest. con-test. We had two state Farmer applicants appli-cants and will have an American Farmer applicant by fall. We had a carnival dance. Parent and sons banquet; membership party; Harvest ball, Christmas Party; two FFA assemblies; and i FFA Basketball team. We sponsored the concessions at the Millard County Junior Livestock Live-stock Show, had a canyon hay ride party, and a week summer out ing. At the State Convention last March, our chapter took third in the state chapter records, and fifth in Chapter activity. Larry Jeffery won $250 00 Standard Oil Scholarship, Scholar-ship, and Reg Pearson won the Soil and Water management a-ward a-ward of $100.00. HAPPY HOMEMAKERS The Happy Homemakers 4-H club, leader, Mrs. Pearl Hawley, have held two meetings this year. At the first meeting they elected officers with Christine Sorenson as president, Vicki Warnick, vice president, pres-ident, Connie Baker, secretary und treasurer and Lorette Brunson as reporter. At the second meeting Ralph Home explained to them the ideals of 4-H work. They will meet twice a month during the summer.
