Show THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 1947 Stanley Abbott, son of Mrs. S. P. Abbott, entered the LDS mission home in Salt Lake City Monday, and will leave June 25 for the Czekoslavakian mission field. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Carson and family who have been living at ' Fairfield, have moved to Pleasant Grove to make their home. Mrs. Clifford Bennett is entertaining enter-taining at a bridal shower this evening ev-ening in honor of her daughter, Clifta, who is to be married soon. Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Russell of Chicago and Dr.j and Mrs. Edward Flanders of Salt Lake were dinner din-ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Peterson Saturday. Mrs. Flanders will be remembered at the former Delia Woolstori of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jameson accompanied ac-companied their niece, Miss Wilma Edwards and Barton North, both of Charleston, to the Salt Lake Temple to be married Friday. Bonnie L. Mr. and Mrs. George H. Smith spent Sunday and Monday in Salt Lake City at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Edvaldson (Beth Smith) On Monday evening they were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Brown, and the group attended the Ice Follies at the Centennial Exposition. Ex-position. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Haws (Betty Brandon) are rejoicing over the arrival of their first child, a boy, born at 12:20 p.m. Monday at the Lehi hospital. This is the second grandson of C. J. Haws and the second great-grandson of Mrs. Julia Carlton. Mr. and Mrs. Haws have been making their home in Tooele, where Mr. Haws is employed. em-ployed. Mrs. Abel Ekins (Geraldine Taylor) Tay-lor) and little daughter, Judy, arrived ar-rived Tuesday afternoon from San Jose, California for a two weeks visit with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald R. Taylor. Ralph Johnson spent the first part of the week in Cedar City, getting acquainted with his new daughter. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Roundy and their family have gone to Victor-ville, Victor-ville, California to accompany their son, Gilbert, home for the summer. Gilbert has been attending high school in the California city. Lee-Dell Lee-Dell Roundy, brother of Mr. Roundy, who is here on leave from the U. S. Navy until June 26, is operating his service station on State Street until his return. Mrs. Dorothy Southwick, Mrs. Isabel Brown and Mrs. Ruth SteJ phenson are attending- summer school at the B. Y. U. Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Ingersoll and two children, Philip and Karen, of Gooding, Idaho spent the week-end with Mrs. Gooding's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Peterson. Un-iversity. o National Horse Show At State Capitol The Utah Centennial National Horse show is scheduled to open at the Utah State Fair Grounds, with performances ' runing June 25th through June 29, with matinees mat-inees Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded at this show amounting to $22,000, which places the Utah show, one of the largest in the United States. The large cash prizes are attracting some of the largest' Show Stables in the country and EJEFtSJ'S. SUS1 fine harness, roadster and jump- ing horses, Utah herself is rapidly becom ing noted as a horse show state. Many fine horses have been added to the list of Utah owners, in the past year. Many of the Utah owned horses have national nation-al reputations and will have to compete with horses coming from California, Texas, Montana, Idaho, New York, Nebraska, Iowa, and many other states. Many nationally known riders and trainers will participate in this show. Special events will be featured for junior riders in all classes. ' The Salt Lake Horse Show As sociation has secured the serv-t ices of Mr. Allen Ross of Bur- bank, California, nationally f known horseshow manager. He has successfully put on the nation na-tion wide Los Angeles National Show at the Horse Palace in Los Angeles, the past several years. The services of a nationally known judge, Professor D. J. Kays of Ohio State University of Columbus, Ohio, has been secured secur-ed to judge the many events. This show will be one of the outstanding events, of Utah's Centennial year. Ninety-eight per cent of marine officers and 89 per cent of marine enlisted men served overseas over-seas during the war.
