In a slam-bang, cockeyed ball game, the Pioneers scored a touchdown in the last quarter to trip their opponents, with Ralph Mitchell showing the way. Payson scored first when Hurst carried over for the count after a 52 yard run had placed the ball in scoring position. Lehi came back with two touchdowns in the second quarter. Mitchell flipped a 35-yard pass to Craig Dorton and the Lehi end ran 55 yards to score. Mitchell, on a cutback play, zlgged and zag-ged zag-ged 80 yards down the sidelines for a touchdown. It was a brilliant bril-liant job of broken field running as he was hit by three tacklers and almost knocked off his feet enroute to the goal line. In the third period the Lions came back with a 13-3 tie at the sound of the horn, but then came the payoff for Lehi. From the Payson 35, Mitchell shot the ball to Dorton, which placed the ball detp in the Lions' territory. Then Dorton carried it across in combination of the end- around and "Statue of Liberty" play.
